that song is truly not meant for the innocent ones, I'm still disturbed, the ending made me squint one eye and try to figure out what was going on and maybe my mind was playing tricks on me. lol Thats just too much for me, the first time I heard it I didn't finish the song, but this time I was like....

Hey, as long as we have two adults they can groove and groove until the earth moves for all I care, but when I heared him talk on Rainbow Children about a woman in subjection to a man, that was a shock to me! This was not the Prince I used to know. On Musicology, he still had not gotten it out of his system: Didn't her mama teach her better? Dressed like that somebody's gonna get her Whaddaya saying here? If a girl dressed in sexy clothes gets raped, it's her own fault? It is one of the reasons What Do You Want Me to Do is my least favorite track on this otherwise excellent LP. This is a side of the man that I really don't like. ^ ^ ^ ALL OF THIS !!! I really like that track but that line always leaves me cold . "We just let people talk & say whatever they want 2 say. 9 times out of 10, trust me, what's out there now, I wouldn't give nary one of these folks the time of day. That's why I don't say anything back, because there's so much that's wrong" - P, Dec '15

You guys are traumatized by him making noises with his mouth..... I love the fact that he was making those slurping and licking sounds...it really got me going. It surprised me at first but then I started to get all wet... He also does the same thing in the extended version of Girl. Don't make me unleash the theif in the temple on yo' behind!

I still couldn't believe it, I wasn't exposed to stuff like that I was seriously raised to think that was unacceptable, of course I don't think so but to see people openly sing about it hahaha.

Come has officially become my favorite Prince song. I "found" this song and the album last week and it being played everyday. I just ordered it on Amazon this w/end and can't wait. The ending on Come is the best part, lol. You definitely need to listen to this song with some head phones on!!

I love the song but I think Sister has to be pretty high on this list surely? 'Incest is everything it's said to be!' ... ewwww xXx JaneyPoos used to be it... then they changed what it was. Now what I am isn't it and what is it is strange and frightening to me...

I gotta say being 12 when I first really listened to Soft and Wet in 1978 was shocking for the time (and my limited sexual awareness), but really by the time "Let's Pretend We're Married" came out I don't think we were really "shocked" by F-Bombs and the softcore porn subject matter. Afterall Prince wasn't yet mainstream and we'd come to expect the raunchiness.
True, he got folk's attention with Darling Nikki and certainly with a songs about an incest loving bi-sexual and getting oral goodies from another man's bride, but really in total the only song that made me cringe (as another poster mentioned) was that rape stuff in Extraloveable. I'm not a prude but you gotta be careful toying around with rape threats in a song as much as say child molestation.
I know, I know artistic freedom, it's only a song, etc... I not trying to prompt a morality debate, besides it's one of my favorite Vault tracks. Last note, I heard that the song was actually written for the 2nd Vanity 6 album so I guess if it's a dominatrix speaking to a john, the rape "threat" takes on a different vibe...

That's not shocking to me. I find those lyrics extremely powerful and honest, you'd understand if you had ever felt what he was on about

This is going to seem weird but for me it was "Marry me..that's right..marry me" lyric fomr the b-side Girl.
It was shocking to me because at that time when I heard him talking about marriage in such a forthright manner I was thinking how the whole image and music would change. Almost unbelievable for the purple Don Juan to settle down ad become an adult with kids and such. I wasn't ready for that and I sure wasnt ready for my fav artist to start doing that or even retiring to do so. "Climb in my fur."

I was in Love Garden Records in Lawrence, KS when someone played Horny Toad, and I felt somewhat embarrassed. Kind of a strange reaction to such a great little song, but it felt a little like I was standing there naked in front of everyone lol He was always so blunt about sex, and sexual longing. It can feel a little awkward in social setting in public, like that's more of a private thing. But that's what Prince was able to do, just celebrate out in the open what most people try to keep hidden. "So fierce U look 2night, the brightest star pales 2 Ur sex..."
