Why isn't Prince appearing on any of the Top Tours of 2011 lists? Between Coming to America, 21 nights in LA, Europe and Candada, surely he has grossed more than most acts on these lists. Is it because it wasn't one, cohesive tour? Can I kiss you there, down there where it counts?

We had a thread about a week ago I'm not gonna go looking 4 it but they said he only released the sales of two of the MSG shows and a LA show I believe. Surely he would be up there

Although it seems like a lot, because we on the ORG follow every move, he really did not perform as much as most of the top grossing tours. He did not do any "stadium level events" that pull in the huge numbers. So while most likely his tour was very successful, he is not out promoting on the strength of a top selling album, constant tv exposure, etc.

Successfull? Financially perhaps. But just recently I heard some stuff about how he did stuff that makes me wonder what type of person he is and of course how successfull he is. What I learned -if true- might be the backdrop for the happenings in Cologne this summer. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

This is from the other thread: This tour was of course a big success!
We won`t get official numbers for all the concerts because only the first ones from New York and Oakland and some from the canadian tour were reported to billboard box office.
Apparently Prince did not want to tell them how sales went or make them official. Dome people in the other thread said, it was because many voncerts were not sold out, but the vast majority of the concerts were very well attended....
Via prince vault and via press coverage i was looking at the attendance for the W2A Euro Tour and approximately 450 000 to 500 000 people saw prince in Europe this year.
Then they were about 200 000 to 250 000 people durng the LA Forum shows and about 90 000 in the New York Area ( 4 concerts at MSG and 2 in East Rutherfod). Then they were 6 concerts in the carolinas plus 3 more in california. Plus the tacoma dome concert, which was not good attended... About up to 500 000 tickets were sold for all US concerts approximately.
Now the eleven concerts of welcome to canada:
with 8500 to 12000 people a night that makes more than 100 000 people.
Worlwide nearly 1 100 000 people saw Prince this year.
Rarely a concert was completely sold out, but with only some weeks in advance and nearly 80 to 90% full, thats not bad:) How much is the gross now? Many tickets in LA were cheap (25$), but the other tickets quite expensive...in the US and in Europe. I paid in NYC 200$ and in Zurich, Rotterdam and Cologne nearly 100€ (150$)...
So the tour grossed at least $ 80 million to more than $ 100 million...
It was reported in many newspapers that during the last months many concerts weren`t sold out....Rihanna, Elton john, Lenny Kravitz etc... But that doesn`t mean a tour is financally not succesfull, because especially in Prince`s case, he doesn`t have a very big production like Madonna , U2, Rihanna or Lady Gaga.
Raving reviews from nearly every newspaper around the world and peoples reaction, which was enthusiastic (big exception cologne )....show that the welcome 2 america tour was big success.

When suddenly you have to confuse shows and nights when a few years before you did undrestand the difference I know enough. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

This isn't to do with tickets grosses, but a San Jose paper rated Prince's W2A show #6 on the Top 10 list for the year. Lil Wayne's show was voted #4 though so his opinion seems skewed to me
