It was the beginning of the NBA on Sunday's on CBS in the early 80's. Somebody at CBS sports was a Prince fan.

I always thought it was the intro to ABC's Wide World of Sports on Saturdays.

Regardless, it's a kickass hint (so early) that even though Prince was introduced as an R&B/disco star, he had no intention on staying there.
