4th day of NOVEMBER? - what happened to Prince this day - need a "Purple High" ?

Why did Prince write about this day exactly: 4th day of November ??

Maybe it's time for a little history lesson?

Sorry for not knowing.. eek

All The Critics Love U In New York

U can dance if U want 2 -- All the critics love U in New York
U don't have 2 keep the beat, they'll still think it's neat -- in New York
U can wear what U want 2, it doesn't matter -- in New York
U could cut off all your hair, I don't think they'd care -- in New York

All the critics love U in New York

Why U can play what U want 2 -- All the critics love U in New York
They won't say that u're naive if U play what U believe -- in New York
Purple love-amour is all u're headed 4 -- but don't show it
The reason that you're cool
is 'cuz you're from the old school, and they know it

All the critics love U in New York

U can dance if U want 2 -- All the critics love U in New York
U can dance if U want 2 -- All the critics love U in New York
All the critics love U, all the critics love U
All the critics love U in New York

It's time 4 a new direction
It's time 4 jazz 2 die
4th day of November
We need a purple high

Don't give up -- I'll still love U

All the critics love U in New York
All the critics love U in New York
All the critics love U, all the critics love U
All the critics love U in New York

body don't wanna quit, gotta get another hit
body don't wanna quit, gotta get another hit
body don't wanna quit, gotta get another hit
body don't wanna quit, gotta get another hit

([fuck me over])

All the critics love U, all the critics love U
All the critics love U in New York

Whaddayou lookin' at, punk'
Look out all U hippies, U ain't as sharp as me
It ain't about the trippin', but the sexuality -- turn it up

U can dance if U want 2

All the critics love U in New York

All the critics love U in New York

(Yes, we're certain of it, he's definitely masturbating)

All the critics love U in New York
Take a bath, hippies!
All the critics love U in New York
All the critics love U in New York
All the critics love U in New York
All the critics love U in New York
New York
New York
New York
New York
New York

Btw. :

STRANGE: the lyrics (to this song only) --- are not printed on the "1999" LP/ CD sleeves/ booklet....

I have always wondered why??

princevault.com:

"Little Red Corvette" / "Lady Cab Driver" was released on the 4th day of November --- but the re-release in 1983 (not the release in 1982).

^^ Oops "Little Red Corvette" wasn't even released in 1982 as a single, right?

both the 1st and 2nd release happened in 1983, iirc...

now back on topic, why did Prince write about this day...

I know it sounds so good damn funky.... when Prince sings these lyrics on the album.... cool

.

November 4, 1984 was the kickoff of the Purple Rain Tour!

Not sure if Prince had that planned when recording All The Critics years earlier.......

Election day in the U.S. is on a tuesday. November 4th, 1982 was a Thursday. I'm not rain man, I had the same idea and looked it up.

I'm just saying...

I still belive that Prince was referring to Election Day, but it was Reagan's election that fell on the 4th of November 1980.

I've never read a very compelling argument as to what the song is really addressing.

have no exact idea, but think the song's about just being able to be who you are and do as you like (style, music, image wise) as a rockstar in NY. prince's shows he played in NY (back then) always got good reviews
