Lovesexy's 15th Anniversary falls this year! Lovesexy is almost 15. It is the album that produced one of the greatest songs in Prince history -- Eye No -- and introduced us to Newpowersoul and the New Power Generation. I happen to think it's his last great album. I also think the fallout from the cover, and the spiritual theme of the lp, personally hurt him so badly he watered down his sound for years thereafter. Of course, that's just my opinion.
Do any of you ever wonder how much differently things would have gone for him, and how differently he may have sounded, had the album been more commercially "successful"? Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

Lovesexy, people around here seem to either love it or hate it.Personally for me it is Princes' masterpiece.
I always thought that the album was fairly commercial it seemed to do pretty well here in the UK,well the singles charted anyway. Sadly I just dont get Princes' music of late, thats not to say I hate it but The Rainbow Children,One Nite Alone just leave me cold. Much love Pochacco

WOW! This makes me feel OLD.
Although this is one of my top 2 Prince albums, I wouldn't say it was his last 'great' album. The Gold Experience and The Glyph Album were 'great' in my book... This album has such an important place in my world. I LOVED it and the tour was my 1st Prince tour. IMO, there's not a clinker on this whole album. The only clinker was using Glam Slam as the 2nd single. Don't get me wrong, I really like that song, but it wasn't a good single and it ended the momentum Alphabet St had started. I think either I Wish U Heaven or Dance On would've fared better as the 2nd single. By the time I Wish U Heaven was released, it was too late, the album was forgotten by that time. hmmmph...

You know what? If Warners did an Anniversary re-release of Lovesexy, with nice packaging, lots of extras (you know, a bit like the MJ reissues)... I'm enough of a sucker that I'd probably buy it. Even though I already own a perfectly good copy of Lovesexy.
See, WB don't exploit Prince's music to it's full potential... they should be milking it! I won't complain!

Even though it sounds like the general puplic doesn't like prince, if you make it, they will buy it. But you have to promote it as well. Prince is not dead. People dig him, they just don't admit it. But all the biggest names in the industry do.

It makes me feel old, too, but it was my senior year in high school and it came out just 3 weeks before my graduation. It was a very special lp for me. 2. I first saw Prince on the Lovesexy tour too. What a mind-blowing experience that was. 3. Yeah, playing the "last great lp" game is very subjective which is why I always qualify with "I think." Gold Experience was indeed a great, cohesive LP, and Symbol without Tony M would have been stellar. 4. In my humble opinion, Eye No is one of the greatest Prince songs ever and one of the greatest expressions of faith he ever put on wax. He says more on that in 4:30 than in all of TRC combined. I agree with you also that the single selection could have been better. His Achilles heel has always been single selections. I thought he coulda come strong with the title track myself. Hate 2 be morbid here, but something tells me that when our fearless hero passes on he will become iconic like Miles. Everything he did will be re-released. Had he not divorced Warners, Purple Rain and 1999 would have get HUGE 20th-anniversary reissues. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

I agree about the I Know/Rainbow Children comparison. And the singles selection... Dance On in particular was a top 10 hit just waiting there.

I heard someone once said something like "TRC was the continuation of where LS left off." So the search continues. 1 Peter 1:24 As the scripture says, "All mankind are like grass, and all their glory is like wildflowers, The grass withers, and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord remains forever."
