X-factor contestant, Stacy Francis, sings a cover of Prince's song "Purple Rain" on X-Factor & brings judges to tears
Stacy Francis, X-Factor contestant sang a short version of "Purple Rain" tonight on "X-factor" and did a pretty good job. She she performed in front of judges Nicole Schwerzinger and Enrique Iglesias, and brought them to tears. Anyone else catch the performance? I'm sure it will show up somewhere on the net later this evening or by early tomorrow.
Here's an article snippet about it from 'SheKnows RealityTV' online magazine:
Stacy Francis was up next at Nicole’s house, and Stacy was extremely nervous. Stacy decided to give “Purple Rain” a try and it was incredible. Stacy’s performance had Nicole in tears and had Enrique thinking that Nicole’s neighbors probably heard Stacy.

Update 10/16:1st video no longer worked;so here's another link
I thought she did okay. She started to take it to church for a minute, when she got a bit spiritual with it, and I bet if she sang a longer version she could have carried that song to another level. I'm sure it will pop up on the net somewhere, but not sure if it could be posted here, since it's a 'Prince song' especially if it's on youtube.
For fucks sake. I don't want Prince to be on shitty Fox shows, and I don't want stupid fuckers posting tweets about Prince when the only song they know is Purple Rain. FUCK.

I must say that it was one of the best non-Prince performances I've seen of that song. I thought it was actually better than Patti LaBelle's version at the 2010 BET Awards. I agree that because it was a condensed version, she didn't have the space to bring it to its full potential, but she definitely worked with what she had.
On a side note, I tear up listening to the lyrics of that song. Even though its the most overplayed Prince song, it still touches my heart when I hear it. Thanks Prince for making such a powerful song.

Oh MarquessMarq be nice. Let the rest of the world have a little Prince too. It doesn't take away from his status with us diehards.

I discussed this with a friend of mine and we both said she sang it 1000% better than Patti did at the BET tribute.

Exactly. Hey, I'm not a fan of FOX station either, but I agree with you. It doesn't take anything away from Prince's s status or career as a musician/artist/performer, regardless of what station he chooses to appear on. Secondly, the newbie or diehard fans don't have a say in telling Prince what show or station he can or cannot appear on, so that 'privilege' for fans, new or diehards..well, never was.
Anyway, so far, not that I am a fan of Pharell, Rihanna, or Enrique Iglesia, but all 3 appeared as judges on the show. The few that were very good on the show tonight are 'Stacy Francis', 'the JB sound-alike' and two groups, "The Answer" and "Lakoda Rain". I think it's nice that musicians/performers who are already in the business and have been successful with their careers, can appear on the show and give other aspiring singers some inspiration.

I have to agree, although I respect Patti LaBelle as an singer/performer, if Stacy had a chance to sing a longer version or 'Purple Rain', she would have blown it out of the water, because she definitely would have put her soul into it. I've never realized the spiritual vibe of Purple Rain, until years later.
^ She was a bit nervous at first, but I have to disagree with you. She did good and that song is definitely in her lane, because she can definitely carry that song. Loved it, especially at mark 2:54, where she began to take it out of the ballpark. She did a good job. Fantastic voice. I think Prince would be proud of her.

I agree ... she did fine. Over sang a bit but eh... its nice hearing people do Prince's music. Its why people don't even think about or remember what great songs he has written

Well that's why we are all entitled 2 our own opinion. Like I said, I wasn't impressed. She has a nice, strong voice but that's not the song 4 her.

the judges were feeling it for sure
Yes, they were, tears and all. It actually sounded better on that vid than on tv. I guess it depends on what kind of tv you have. She just did an amazing cover of it. I just listened to it about 5 times and probably again tomorrow. Her voice is amazing, because she put a lot of her soul into it. Awesome just awesome. I'm a new fan of hers after this. Someone even said that 'Purple Rain' was trending on Twitter, after that broadcast.

Hey, that's cool. Different strokes for different folks. It's all good.
That shit was awful.... her phrasing and tone were all the way OFF. There was no proper build up for her hollering and it was just a messy vocal. Definitely not the song for her. Desxter would have been more true to the song if he did it and Stacy could have done Crazy In Love which goes well with all that over the top hollering. "She took me to church" then I never want to attend the church that you are a member of if they singing like that.
Glad to see Prince trending though!!!
Stevie Wonder = EARTH
Prince = WIND
Chaka Khan = FIRE
Sade = WATER

I don't think anyone in church would miss you though (just kidding) I guess not everyone will like or gravitate to her type of singing, but I think she will still do well in this competition. She would definitely do well in the gospel category.
