The Dawn

The Dawn was to be the first Prince album after Emancipation, but it was shelved in 1997. An acoustic version of the title track can be found on The Truth. Prince had often thought of releasing an album called 'The Dawn' at many points during his career. The earliest known incarnation of 'The Dawn' was from 1986, and seems to have been some kind of musical (an idea that eventually resurfaced as 'Graffiti Bridge'). Another incarnation of 'The Dawn' was assembled around 1994, soon after Prince changed his stage name to an unpronounceable symbol. This time the content was made from tracks that would later surface on Come and The Gold Experience. The last known incarnation of the album was assembled in 1997, this time it came very close to release, and was even advertised on the back of the free cassette single of 'The Holy River' given away at 'Borders' stores in 1997.^[3]

Prince's first usage of 'the Dawn' & Purple are found in the 1976 demo Leaving 4 New York

True. But check out the beautiful experience CD box. On the first page you can read :"Welcome 2 the dawn" coming with a cheesy graphic. That was before TGE or The Truth.

I remember beeing excited when I read it, expecting Prince best songs ever and I remember beeing disapointed when I heard the music.

Then, the music is ok. It was just not the dawn I expected.

wouldn't it be something like being so conscious that when one faces their final moments on this earth that one is awake enough to see who or what greets them at the translation (soul leaving the body)? a conscious translation would be the All-in-All.

do you want to be conscious enough to meet the Creator during your final moments? and, if you had seen God in full Glory, would you want to remain in the physical body or move on? could you even drink from that Cup with your lips or with your eyes? i don't know, maybe we are looking for It. maybe the final moments around about getting rid of the ego and being in a higher consciousness. i really don't know.

That's more or less my interpretation of it.

Whether or not that's what Prince meant by it though remains a mystery (obviously a reference to the Second Coming is more likely, particularly given the direction his faith has taken in recent years).
