This snip shit is out of control. Lock the thread or something, but simply snipping everyone's posts is NOT acceptable moderation.... You should know better.

I've had in done in a previous Parade era thread, so I'm learning from the elder Mods

It's NOT out of control, what WAS out of control was the back & forth on if someone was a dork for not believing in Jesus, God is unfair, Who is the only God etc, and that is the kind of off topic stuff that constantly gets cool topics twisted into arguing.

If every time a thread, especially an interestig one get's taken off course we lock it, then we'll really have a bitch fest going on. And complaints of peoples freedom of speach rights being violated.

And I did not SNIP NYMIkes post, I think he just did that himself

Well that's a relief, but if it wasn't you than who? I've already had my threads moved and deleted so I think someone wants to silence me. confused

NewYorkMike = Bria Valente

The Org is trying to censor me.

Beyonce ain't got shit on me.

Snipping posts isn't augmenting someone's freedom of speech? Hell, that's outright changing it.

Anyway, coming to this thread and reading a litany of [SNIP] is really shocking to me. It's like the Luv4U School of Bad Modding. When in doubt, snip it out.

I like you, always have. And I am sure the transition is strange cuz its a strange environment. But take an example from official forums with paid moderators. They give a few warnings, maybe not even a few, and then lock the thread down. None of this rampant snipping and editing of posts. You guys can delete/hide AND lock threads without all the conflict.

And just to make sure I keep MYSELF on topic....

The dawn, as I've heard it from Prince and interpreted it, is just the realization of God. The second coming of Christ. The meaning clearly changed for him at some point... Around the time he changed his name to a symbol. Then, the dawn was here. The new spiritual revolution. A new way of thinking. Clarity 'dawned' on him at the time and, thus, the dawn was here.

The meaning of "the dawn" as it stands has been described in the track "Welcome 2 the Dawn"... For instance:

"When the truth of God

Is the only thing in life

That will reveal

Welcome, welcome 2 the dawn"

Or whatever. Clearly, the Dawn is a state of mind now as opposed to an actual event.

We ALL agreed to the Rules of the site. If myself or anyone has a problem with the few rules given then why join just to break them. I had the hell snipped out of Parade era thread the 1st time I did it, and after it was done it looked better because of all the off topic pics and arguing that took place, and the moderator wanted to keep it going.

I gave 2 warnings in this topic before I SNIPPED.

That said I agree with your interpretation of the subject.

I've always love Prince's earlier apocolyptic themes. It kind of went along with the 1980's nuclear war/futuristic social world events. movies like Blade Runner & Mad Max

Very clear breakdown of his apparent interpretation of "the dawn" through different eras - it makes lots of sense.

I wonder if the meaning changed for him again after becoming a JW though, because, as I understand it, they do see the second coming as an event, rather than the moment of absolute self-realisation, or a personal realisation of God.

In Ol' Skool Company, the "'til dawn" reference returns, suggesting that the spiritual goal posts have changed again (which, all things considered, is probably a given).

It reminds me of anyone on a spirtual journey - thinking you've found the answers, then discovering more questions, etc... It's just that it's happened very publically for Prince through his music (that, alongside arguably a certain dose of spiritual arrogance that still seems to remain prevalent).

I just hope he's still searching, rather than settling into a particular doctrine and waiting for the dawn to come knocking.

I think the spiritual arrogance has always kind of been there and the statement itself is kind of arrogant. I guess most people take it as well wishing, but I've always heard it as forboding. Let's just hope you make it to the dawn rather than see ya when we get there. Back in the day, his arrogance was clever. He's not nearly as clever today, so all that's left is the arrogance. Woops.

Is the dawn a state of mind provoked by an event or an event provoked by a state fo mind or both ?

Well, as some said : the meaning of the Dawn probably changed in Prince mind quite a few times. Is probably not 100% consistant about it, so why shall we ? Defining it or trying to be logical about this matter is like dancing on quicksand.

I don't feel that Prince is being arrogant and please don't take this as I need to defend him. Rather, this message could be one from his higher self to him and as well as all of us. He shares much with us that he does not need to but does out of love in the music.

Times are changing now - especially during the last six weeks of this year. It is time to acknowledge each of our shadow selves and put it into the dawn of the light. The issues that one has with their parents and upbringing is usually the key elements of one's shadow self as one's parents are often an extension of one's self: we chose our parents to teach us the lessons that we need most to pass in this school of life. Bringing this to the dawn liberates in2 a higher
consciousness...

Prince used this phrase since his first album .... Has Prince ever spoken about this? Also, when and why did "The Dawn" arrive? Thanks!

I'm not sure if he has spoken about this, but it seems to me that over time, the concept evolved to mean two things:

1. The coming of Christ

2. The opening of Prince's musical vault.

The first, I won't even get into.

But with regards to the second, it's fairly obvious Prince had started to record music at a feverish pace long before his Purple Rain era. I speculate that he had planned to release all of his music at some point in the future.

His pre-Symbol albums said "Welcome 2 the dawn" whereas The Gold Experience (and the Beatuiful Experience Maxi-single) kicked off a series of albums that said "Welcome 2 the Dawn."

I honestly think his L41A.com website was meant to facilitate this, but within a few years we saw an abandonment of "The Dawn" both as an album and as a concept, along with the dismall debacle of his website, and an end to the Symbol nonsense.

Had he stayed with the symbol despite how unpopular it was, I would have given him more credit for at least sticking to his guns. now I just find him to be a fickle, money-obsessed, ego-maniac, who happens to put out some really good music from time to time.
