How Prince effed us all up Yeah...I grew up a Prince fan However in retrospect....I'm not quite sure that was a good thing nor am I sure that he was a good influence on culture and society as a whole. Music is powerful!.... Did he use his power for the good or to our detriment?

What are you saying? When I see these titles like "How Prince F'd Us All Up", I expect to see some back up or explanation. A lot of people do this on the org and it's getting overrated. If you feel like you're getting fucked over, then BYE!!!
Win.

One of the most noteable things, in my opinion, that is a direct result of his legacy as an artist is his fanatical obsession with biracial and non black women as the standard of beauty to be coveted. He was a heavy contributor to that way of thinking , and his legacy has been seen in music videos and commercials every since.

Boy you're on a roll today. A stupid one I might add.
What fucking direct result? How in your little mind can you even gauge this? Please share! Or at least provide sources.
Fanatical obsession with biracial and non black women as the standard of beauty? Wow, lay off the coke.
Heavy contributor? To Black power right? Yeah I think I get what you're saying now.
Legacy observed via music videos and commercials. Hmm. Because he's done WAY more commercials than tours and THAT's how we should judge his legacy.
For fucks sake. NewYorkMike = Bria Valente

As this is the good old USA, Prince has a right to live and love whom he wants. Prince's Sarah

Agreed ND, isn't this a fan site? If anything else the ONLY way I can say Prince "ruined" us is by setting a pretty high bar of musicianship, stage presence, songwriting and creativity all in one person that just doesn't happen all the time... Trolls be gone!

Yeah... That's Prince's fault. Hilarious!! Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors.

'fanatical obsession' is redundant. if someone is fanatical, they are obsessed.
oh, forget it. When you don't have a case, yell RACE!

Oh my god, what an odd thread.
How do you see effeminisation af black men? 1) Are they really? 2) How on earth has anything Prince has done have an effect on this?
How do you know he has an obsession with non black women, and not just women? While I agree that mainstream culture is or has been obsessed with the white anglo saxon look in women, I fail to see Prince as a big influence on this, but I might be wrong.
But most of all I wonder why these exact two points are the ones you bring up???
(I'm not sure I want to read the answer, but they might be good, so I may not be all rhetorical)...

In the movie Purple Rain, Prince didn't even portray his own mother as a Black woman yet certainly didn't skip the opportunity to cast in the role of his deranged and abusive father a dark skinned Black man[url]

Like your initial questions..! ( food for thought and all that)
Sorry your getting flamed..
Umm.. dont agree with your idea that Prince inspired others (blacks?) to place higher value on biracial/non black women. Peeps been doing that way before him in media and real life.
I see your point though re his previous dress sense, but again he wasn’t the only one as lots of 80's rock bands stateside wore makeup and had big hair.. I don’t even think there was an agenda to feminize black men specifically at that time.. just men in general.
Most of the bands & artists I admired as a kid were part of the New Romantic scene - big into synths and wore makeup whether they were male or female. I believe the New Romantic 'image' crossed the pond and inspired a lot of US artists in the 70's & 80's. Prince is included IMHO as his purple rain look was a direct steel from Adam and the Ants look. (Prince was in knee high socks and a Mac before his management signed him up to the NR train )
Growing up in a Christian community and household I had been exposed to thoughts & preconceived ideas about sex & sexuality etc.. from adults. But Prince kinda 'taught me through his music' that having faith in God and a libido was NORMAL and not something I should be ashamed about.
The only downside to my admiration of him and his music after all these years is that I tend to find men who look like Prince more attractive than other dudes - minus that New Romantic makeup btw (As I grew out of that)..
One minute they want peace……
Then do everything to make it go away.

i visit this forum relatively frequently and post every now and then. This post has nothing to do with the original title but more to do with an individual whose name I have noticed once or twice over the past couple of weeks or so: New York Mike.
Is it me, or is this guy a complete twat? Jumping on every thread and bashing it. No offence to the rest of the Americans on here (as I have no problem with Americans) but Mike seems to fit the negative American sterotype of a loud mouthed, opinionated prick who thinks that only his opinions matter.
Why don't you go and eat a 'corn dog' or something? At least that will occupy your gargantuan mouth for a minute or 2, and will hopefully mean that less bullshit will emit from it.
