I'd like prince to focus in his 2000's songs at concerts

He sings pretty little from his new works. Musicology2004ever only had 3 song from the supporting album performed at the concerts. I like the 2000's as his best works, since he reached maturity and was "emancipated" from any label contract. Find Lousflow3r one of his best works to day.

As great as most of Lotus Flow3r was, Prince hates most of his own new material around 3 weeks after releasing it. He abandons promotion right away, and he pays the lowest amount to his bands that is possible. I have not met a single band member from any of his bands that even pretends to have made any money working for him. There is a reason Prince doesn't pay his bands anything...he doesn't pay anybody anything. He does whatever he can do to avoid paying people. Not to mention, even if he did play any of his new material, it would likely be in snippet form, and would probably have Shelby or Liv sing lead on most of them.

Yes, Prince can play some great concerts when he wants to, but he isn't "Willing To Do The Work," many nights, and takes short cuts, and lets people like Andy Aloe in his band. Prince is the greatest ever, and sure, a weak Prince concert is better than a great concert by anyone else, but it is a shame that the best musician of our times is lazy.

The only reason Prince played his album songs on tours in the 80's etc was because he had too due to selling for the record company and needing to have a return. Why do you thnk he began doing aftershows? And playing new and unreleased tunes on the tours?

It isnt that he hates his new shit. Its as its always been. He moves on real fast.

He plays a fair selection of newer tracks. I mean he has to do mainly hits, this is his BnB income now.

I don't know where I read it, but somewhere, Prince was asked the question of Why don't you play newer songs in concert and his response was people wanted to hear what they know and can sing along to.

Than, this lead us to the another question. Even though his 2000's and 2010's material is awesome(like i said, the best for me) he don't appear on hot 100 or any other important chart at top 10 anymore. I know it's beacause he don't have label and don't promote his albums through singles anymore.

To tell the truth, i wished him to sign with a major label once again. Than he would have singles at top 10 of hot 100 and i would be able to buy his albums at my local store in brazil.

Anyway, i'm going to attend his concert at Brazil anyway when he decides to come here once again.

I loved when he played "Boom" at that LA Club show (the one where it was Andy's first performance with the band). I would defo love to hear more of the most recent albums performed live.

I would love to hear more of the new songs as well. He does incorporate some like Future Soul Song, Dreamer, Musicology and When Eye Lay My Hands On U, but I would love to hear other songs. It's tough with the arena shows though. It would be awesome if he did a small venue tour.

I could really dig it.

I guess for me I wish he would either focus just on hits or new material (like 80/20 ratio). That might sound kind of extreme but I'm not too fond of his hybrid hits/new material blends at recent shows.

Old Prince is fucking great.

New Prince is fucking great.

But the components of old P and new P that he chooses to mix, for me sounds heterogenous.

Plus he's got some material that really deserves the spotlight. Alas this is Prince we are talking about, logic isn't in that mans lexicon. lol

Uh...no. If you look at the charts, since like around 1998, the amount of Artists over 35 with hits got smaller and smaller as each year went by. Since 2005 or so, almost no singles became hits by anybody over 40. Since Prince is in his 50's, the chance of a hit is almost ZERO. If he made a song better than When Doves Cry, he'd have a slight chance, but seriously...as great as his new stuff is, it's not gonna be a hit...EVER. I've accepted this. The last chance he had to have a serious hit was with "So Far So Pleased," but since Gwen Stefani had a part, No Doubt's label wouldn't have it. Sad, but no more hits for old people.

^ Same here. He has no need to play all those covers when he has such a vast repertoire of sonds to pull from. Maybe that's his way of showing the public that he is not an I-land.

This is a reality that most fans seem lost on. If you want to hear more obscure and unreleased material then go to the aftershows (or the smaller venue gigs). If you continue to go to the arena shows then you will continue to be disappointed at what you hear.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

I agree. But it's not going to happen, so just go to work creating a playlist. I have a 3-hour "virtual concert" playlist of his more recent material cobbled together from concerts Musicology onward and it's great. There are some great versions of songs he's only played live a few times (e.g., Planet Earth, Crimson & Clover, Future Soul Song) and with songs like "Dreamer" there are oodles to choose from. If you then put in some of the rarities he performed on this last leg of the W2A tour and you're looking at a long afternoon of post-2000 Purple Music.

My wish: let him play all of the hits he wants to during the main concert event, but at the aftershow whip out the new stuff and the cult faves, b/c he can do it then if he wants. The fact that he doesn't is revealing to me...

Well, Madonna released 4 minutes that did good at charts. I believe if she makes good music she still can make a number one( if i'm not mistaken her last #1 at hot 100 was Vogue). Talking about P, he still have chart power. Lotusflow3r was #1 at US at it's release. If he had interest really, i still think he could pull out a mega-hit.

Two good points. Prince just has a sound that doesn't really benefit from covers, plus his interpretation of others lyrics at times can be a little.. unexpected lol I Can't Make You Love Me comes to mind.

I wonder how Prince did financially on the "One Night Alone" tour. That's the kind of tour he could do and play new and exotic stuff, but maybe it's not a financial plus to do so.

Prince could have a hit-album'- if he did good promotion. I really hope he will release a good album with good promotion, it's really the only way to have a hitalbum. That doesn't mean he needs a hitsingle, cuz that's not really that important.

And tour with a album. if a setlist has 25 or 20 songs on it. And the album has 20 tracks for example, do at least 7 a 10 tracks from newer stuff(so last 3 years?) and the rest hits and other songs. I think he can do it..
