Among a few videos I saw in the little kitchen break area of Paisley Park were the classic old Bill Cosby comedy performance "Himself" and the old stop motion epic "Jason and the Argonauts".
He also has quoted from and used character names from "The Godfather" and "Scarface" and "The Shining".
And he chose to take the entire concert audience to see the movie "Minority Report" although the next night he called it "strange".
He also was at the premeire of "A Scanner Darkly" and invited the director to his house straight from the screening to talk about the movie.
He referred to the word "mecha" in a song which was a term used in movie "A.I."

Thank you so much for this. I would have loved to listen to that "A Scanner Darkly" conversation. He took the audience to the movie??? "strange" is good.

If you're talking specifically movies, I'm no expert like ufoclub, but I guess he liked "The Matrix" and "Dogma" based on interviews that are out there. He was also very "hats off" to Mel Gibson when they were on Leno when Gibson was promoting "The Passion of the Christ." I'm guessing he'd like "Inception" too (no basis - just my opinion) - it's kind of sci-fi + action, which he seems to like. Also, in interviews, he spins his childhood in a kind of positive light, like his father's strictness - instead of speaking bitterly, he says it helped him be his best. It reminds me of the movie because they're trying to implant into that guy's mind the idea that the harsh distant father's disapproval was actually encouragment and love. It's like this positive spin has been "incepted" into Prince's mind too. My brother's a psychologist, deals w/ underprivileged kids, this ability to spin bad things is called resilience. Anyway, how about my "favorite things" song lines to add to to toejam's? That's the first time I've tried to be funny here.

Nice connection you made with Inception. In the movie "Purple Rain" his relationship with his father was turbulent but also very beautiful. There was so much pain and love at the same time. "Resilience"...I've learned something new. I LOVE MEL GIBSON!!! He is one of the best directors. I hope the stupid media leaves him alone so he can finally director the movie about the vickings.

oh yeah, Prince definitely loved The Matrix! He mentioned that a few times in interviews didn't he? Comparing things in life to that movie.
The only one I mentioned that's special knowledge is "A Scanner Darkly" about Prince hanging with Linklater and talking movies until dawn. Not many people know about that. I know because I'm good friends with people that hang with that director (an Austin fixture), and I talked to him myself about it when he premiered a movie two years ago in Houston. Where can I find those interviews?

I know about you and "A Scanner Darkly" - I googled it here on the org (that search button at the top right corner). Not everything is searchable, though. There's so many threads, so many years, and random topics and unclear titles - so don't get mad if I don't know everything.

Yes I remember the celebration of 2002 when the air conditioning went out and yes he took us to a movie theater in to see Minority Report. Of course we know he has a fondness of doves. I remember seeing them at Paisley Park.
