If you're talking specifically movies, I'm no expert like ufoclub, but I guess he liked "The Matrix" and "Dogma" based on interviews that are out there. He was also very "hats off" to Mel Gibson when they were on Leno when Gibson was promoting "The Passion of the Christ."

I'm guessing he'd like "Inception" too (no basis - just my opinion) - it's kind of sci-fi + action, which he seems to like. Also, in interviews, he spins his childhood in a kind of positive light, like his father's strictness - instead of speaking bitterly, he says it helped him be his best. It reminds me of the movie because they're trying to implant into that guy's mind the idea that the harsh distant father's disapproval was actually encouragment and love. It's like this positive spin has been "incepted" into Prince's mind too. My brother's a psychologist, deals w/ underprivileged kids, this ability to spin bad things is called resilience.

Anyway, how about my "favorite things" song lines to add to to toejam's? That's the first time I've tried to be funny here.

oh yeah, Prince definitely loved The Matrix! He mentioned that a few times in interviews didn't he? Comparing things in life to that movie.

The only one I mentioned that's special knowledge is "A Scanner Darkly" about Prince hanging with Linklater and talking movies until dawn. Not many people know about that. I know because I'm good friends with people that hang with that director (an Austin fixture), and I talked to him myself about it when he premiered a movie two years ago in Houston.

Has Mr. Linklater mentioned his night/day with Prince?

Has Mr. Linklater mentioned his night/day with Prince?

A friend of mine, ex college roommate, that is an indie director (Alex Holdridge) was at the movie afterparty and called me on his phone to tell me he was standing very close to Prince as Prince and Linklater were talking. Then a few months later, Holdridge had dinner at Linklater's house in Austin (with Kathyrn Bigelow!) and that was where Linklater told Holdridge about the rest of the night and talking extensively with Prince about movies (just the two of them at Prince's house) all night long. Then a year later, Linklater was premeiring his film "Me and Orson Welles" in Houston, and I was there with a friend who had worked with Linklater's company in the past. She introduced us in the lobby afterwards. And I simply asked, "so tell me about this night you spent talking about movies with Prince?" and he laughed and said "How did you know about that?" I told him, and he said two things (we didn't really talk but for a few moments) He said Prince liked his movie a lot and was asking him a lot about it and getting deep into it and his other films. And also that Prince's face and hair were perfectly composed. He mentioned that. lol

oh yeah, one more thing that Alex mentioned was that Linklater had said that Prince had an extensive knowledge of films. My friend Alex seemed very surprised, and actually said " I had no idea", but then again back when we were roommates, I was the Prince fanatic, and Alex was always saying most of it was crap. But that was years and years ago!

Prince must watch a lot of movies.

He must like silent films from the 20s since he mentions Clara Bow in "Condition of the Heart" and UTCM is a sort of homage to (or parody of) those films.

The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.

I think UTCM is more in the style of 30s (sound pictures, era of Fred Astaire, high society, etc.). As for silents, I believe he mentions W.C. Handy in one of his songs - don't remember which.

So I guess he really likes movies!

If it were a 30s movie it would definitely be from the pre-Code era. lol

Ahh, you know about the Code. OK, so let's place UTCM as a 1932 film, shall we? And Clara Bow was still around then, so I guess you could be right. (I have my TV set to TCM as default! I even watch Silent Sundays).

^^ Lots of people interpret "The Matrix" as a religious/Christian allegory, so I can see Prince's interpretation of it. What I REALLY don't understand is how he views "Dogma" as some sort of affirmation of Christianity - apparently, that's why he picked Kevin Smith to film stuff for him at Paisley Park, and even Kevin Smith was like, "Huh? Is THAT what 'Dogma' was about? OK, dude..."

In a kind of recent french radio interview, he mentioned that he liked "La Vie en Rose" w/ Marion Cotillard. Also remember reading that he got some Fellini DVD. The guy likes movies!

Thanks for the info. Wouldn't have guessed it, both films seems so "masculine."

But why the small print - are you whispering? Afraid to get bashed by an orger for actually knowing something? Don't whisper - I like your posts! Like, "Prince has a sister?? eek " and "Prince and Andy made porn?? eek " There's wonder and excitement there.

The others I appreciated are digitalgardener (he had lots of useful info), oldfriends4sale (info, reasonable fan), timmy84 (reasonable opinions, respectful), dare I say imago (funny, & sometimes on point serious responses), and sodashoes because she's the kind fan I expect to find on a fansite - hopelessly in love with our guy.

At a certain point, if it ain't fun to be somewhere, even if it's a cyberspace place, and if you find yourself becoming less of a fan because of the experience, it's time to leave.

The reason its in small print is because I copied and pasted from my facebook status and was too lazy to rewrite it here. I havent had problems with people on this forum and I hope I never will. I dont know many of the users so thank you for pointing out some of the ones you appreciate. U like my silly posts huh? hahaha That makes me feel better. Not that I want to add to any perceived "cyberspace dramas" (and mindful that this is getting more than a bit OT), but that statment is not actually true confused

It looks like Sophia wrote a 36 page (unfinished) manuscript called The Third Eye, which she claims was the basis for both The Terminator and The Matrix films (although she also states outright to be the writer of these films, which is a completely different claim and unequivocally false).

An account of a reviewer wanting to review her book is here and there's also some information about it on Snopes.

I followed up on it because I've always felt that The Matrix was, in some part, "divinely inspired", so to speak. I don't doubt the possibility that Sophia received similiar inspiration for her work, as the messages of the Oracle are important ones, but I think she lost the essence of these messages when she followed this path, claiming to be the "Writer of the Matrix & Terminator Movies" (based on one 36 page manuscript) and chasing a billion dollar settlement.

All of that aside, I too had a good laugh at your one-line summation of the "Morality Question" thread wink

She actually won her case. Even if a movie is inspired by a small paragraph, they have to give credit to the source. It is the concept of the story that inspired the public and it did come from her. It pisses me off that I never heard of this woman before.

LOL Glad it made you laugh.
