Prince claimed his songs were his children. We're just holding him to the standards HE sets.

wht fascinates me more is how a grown ass man like you is so OBSESSED by Prince yet your always so negative.....

very odd behaviour

to be honest man i started this thread cos i was bored at work like an afterthought..relax man

get a girlfriend

go to the park

enjoy purple rain

dont spend all your time hatin

and LISTEN AND LEARN from unique-show humility

Is that your version of admitting you were wrong? Class.

Come on, TVD.

He wasn't looking to make $ when he released that album, because it was (on its face and artistically) a departure from what he'd been doing. A sequel to Purple Rain (flick and record) would have been a MUCH better way to cash in.

For those of us that are fans of synth-driven music, Around The World In A Day was Prince selling out musically, sacrificing his ghetto passes AND street creds in the process.

I stand by my words. wink

And speak of sequels, if you really want to know what "Purple Rain II" might have sounded, check out Teena Marie's Emerald City album.

But PR wasn't that synth-driven either. I just call it artistic risk, knowing full well that ATWIAD alienated a lot of his pre-PR fanbase. I'll let it be, and will check EmCity.

reading Dez Dickersons comments in Dave Hill's "A Pop Life" always made me shake my head at how he described damn near YEARNING for the sell out/crow. Dez was really on some shit back then. Prince probably as well, and since Prince doesnt speak on those things, Dez comes off realllll bad in that manner imo.

I know it is an overall opinion and desire to reacha wider audience..it just reeks of ..I dontknowhattocallit

Great book.

I think that there was a bit of truth to Dez's comments. I still haven't read his book but plan to do so.
