it was answered in 98-vibe interview i think

so its always odd to me people deliberate on here what the song is about when he told the answer in 98

but unfortunatly in 98 nobody was listening

But the idea of blood in the sky is spiritual, right? An afterlife, I suppose?

Actually, in 1998 I was starting to lose interest in Prince...

my understanding was that prince believe(d) that a nuclear explosion would result in a purple rain...something like that

"the sky was all purple there were people running everywhere

etc...

red in the sky is kinda apocolyptic

it was the Tavis Smiley interview from 1998 with Larry and Chaka. And I thought he was referencing the line from 1999. The sky being purple because the sky is blue, blood is red, and blue and red make purple. He was on a major armageddon kick back then. "Armageddon is headin..."
