Through the gates, knock on the door
Put your clothes in the pile on the floor
Take your pick from the Japanese robes and sandals
Drink champagne from a glass with chocolate handles

U can come if U want 2, but U can never leave!

November 2006 Las Vegas

High-Five from Prince Was Highlight of Show! My Vegas Experience!

High-Five from Prince Was Highlight of Show (well, one of them)
by June7

So, I show up with my brother and his wife (Marty & Sheila) to Las Vegas to check out Prince’s new venue. We stayed at my cousin’s house – he drove us to and from the event - that was pretty cool.

Anyway, we get there about 8:45pm, an hour and fifteen minutes prior to when the doors open (at 10). The line is long. I search for this “Member Line” I was told about, to no avail. There was no special entry or special line… Prince did not come out and greet us. I was disappointed, because I showed up early specifically to take advantage of the perks of being a member and buying “pre-sale”. In fact, my brother’s ticket was as good as mine, and we purchased it online on the day before the event. We waited through the line for about an hour. In the meantime, I sneak away and drop $20 in a nearby slot machine… no win.

...

This is the best picture, I think. I was so damn close! Remember, this is a forbidden shot from a cell phone!

These are the famous "crib sheets" that I saw. I don't know if you can see them, it's so dark.

He changed clothes, came out in this white outfit. Kinda blurry - but, it's all about hush hush, can't be caught!

mplsmike , the security was so tight that i saw people wait for 3 or 4 hours for the concert to begin and as soon as the concert began they would take out ther cameras or cell phones and would be asked to leave with no refund, lol!!! im sure that was the best she could do, they were not playin around at 3121 Vegas

Love this era woot! Fun times for Prince concert hopping in Vegas. I was at the opening weekend show at 3121 Vegas, and the 3 people I was with, plus myself, along with about 20 other lucky fans, who were in line waiting to go into the venue, had our pics taken by Prince's assistant "Sam" at the time.

We had no idea what he was going to do with those pics, but once fans were let inside to the show, just before the show started, all of a sudden, there were the pics of the fans who had their pics taken with their friends , including mine and the group I was with, flashing across the 12 jumbo screens. I didn't even realize what was happening until I heard some fans screaming in joy, when they saw their pics on the screens. We were like kids jumping in joy because we got some unexpected candy. We had no idea that was going to happen when Sam approached us outside the venue, while were were waiting in line just outside the venue. What a surprise that was and those pics were shown that whole weekend before and after the show!! Fun times!!!!woot!

SUCH wonderful Memories...Dearly missed......seems that's what my life is...MEMORIES...I am stuck in a time Zone?

One of the greatest time of my LIFE!!!! Not only were the shows awesome, but the aftershows were killer, very intimate too! loved every moment and I thank Prince for such an awesome experience. cool

Best of all was hearing Pink Cashmere live for the first time, one of my all time favorite classics, with Mike Phillips killa solo, and to this day, one of the best versions I have ever heard.

lol No, you're not stuck in a time zone, just have fun memories of that era. Fun times at the shows, and meeting different fans from all over, and the good thing was, it was in one place and many people had time to decide what show to attend and how many.

I never made it into the actual jazz room to any of the 3121 shows I attended, where the band played, but only into the second room, and listened from there. I only caught the last 15 minutes of it and couldn't really see, but the music was good. That was during the last weekend in March 2007 weekend. Fans who never saw him play in a smaller venue were very happy about getting into the aftershows.

However, I did get to eat in the Jazz Cuisine restaurant, only once, with the people I was with at the time, and was able to do a day tour earlier in the day, of the Jazz room where the band played, and we got to see the area where the instruments were set up, and how the tables were arranged, so that was fine with me.

Does anybody have any pics of the menu from the restaurant? I remember seeing they hade Kobe Beef, but forget what else. I also vaguely remember a package where you got dinner for two, two tix to the gig, and bottle service if memory serves me right. I think there was also a sample dinner where you basically got a little of everything on the menu. I woulda killed to have been at one of those shows. And from the sounds of the bootlegs from this period, he was in great form. I always saw these gigs as him tightening up at that time a new band. I mean if you think about it, he disbanded the Musicology group (my personal favorite band of his) right before this, so hearing him with new blood was cool. However, I was a bit bitter to see John Blackwell go, and sadly enough, CC Dunham kinda sucks compared to him. Her husband was wicked on bass though during these gigs. And after the stint at the club was up, he had a fiercely tight band for the o2 gigs.

My sister was in Vegas at one point during his stay and she sent me a cell phone pic of the Rio building with his symbol on it. At that point she used to crack on me constantly for being a Prince knucklehead, but then she went to a gig with me at MSG during Welcome 2 America and she FINALLY came around to him. To quote her: "I see it now. I get your admiration for him".

Now...if only a promoter could get Prince to do a residency in Philly, or better yet, Atlantic City at the Borgata or something. It could happen..biggrin
