Peach and Black and Oud I don't usually care for speculative threads, but I just finished listening to the Peach and Black 'Rave' review and it made me wonder. Would a Prince experiment toward more of a world music sound be successful? In the podcast someone mentions the Arabic sounds in "The Greatest Romance Ever Sold" and that's a sound Prince flirted with quite often in the nineties (the entire symbol album concept for instance or that version of "The Max" on Work It 2.0). How would it sound if Prince had embraced that more fully and put out an album using Arabic musicians playing songs specifically written as collaborations between them? I'm thinking of an experiment along the lines of Paul Simon's Graceland record, but not as lame. The arabic oud is pretty versatile and I could hear it fitting in with some Prince tunes already out (the Lisa and Wendy version of "Strange Relationship" for example).
Here's the oud played as jazz:

I wish he would do something different like this but it has to be because he wants to do it, not just do it for the sake of doing it ...
It could be great if done correctly and for the right reasons.. Hard to believe I've been on the org for over 25 years now!

Truth be known he's probably already done it and it's in the vault, That's what I assume of most what if musical concepts.
Sitting around a studio for 30 years you just would have done most things at some point

It would be brilliant. I'd like to see him stretch his legs a bit, do something completely different and just stun everyone.

the only way ANYTHING in the vault is any good is if he is intentionally putting all his crap out on cds and holding back his good stuff .. not likely .. the vault consists of more of the same casio drum patterns with 8 th grade lyrics about sex .. he will never release it because he knows he can't deliver on the hype surrounding the vault .. prince will never put out music as sonically interesting as graceland .. he put out rave and didn't even mix gwen or ani at a volume you can hear .. sheryl crow was relegated to a harmonica .. lets get real about prince .. its shameful

Each to there own I guess. However from the vault stuff I've heard I'm totally impressed.
Sheryl Crow done backing vocals on Baby Knows. I don't know about you but I can here Gwens voice on So Far So Pleased and Ani's Guitar on I Love You But I Don't Trust You Anymore perfectly. Prince is shamefull?
Then why are you here if you think so little of his talents

Look at the Around the World in a Day era thread, and have a listen to the music. Apparently, there's oud and fingercymbals and stuff on there. I think he also used some "world music" influences in .
