I love Sly, but that song they had together wasn't really that good imo. My Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/tundrah

For what it was at the time, groundbreaking!!! Think about it: P loved Sly, but Jesse got 2 work w/Him!!! Kinda a "Thank U Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin" tribute, but still cool!!!!

you got to be crazy not to like the 94 East version best. the guitar and bass parts are what make this song great but they are completely missing from Prince's version. why would he only use the lyrics from the original? who wrote the song anyway? is it credited to Prince? did he play guitar on the original?

Not sure if I have a favorite versions of this one. Don't think any of the three is bad. Jesse's arrangement, for all intents and purposes, is a straight lift of Prince's -- just edited down (no Jamie Starr excesses). From what I've read, Jesse kinda pulled a Prince and just claimed it for himself (along with a co-writing credit for Pepe). It's quite easy to tell where Jesse's arrangement came from (it certainly doesn't sound anything like Pepe's original). I can actually kinda see P's original working as a Time song (maybe that was his original intent -- would make sense, considering Jesse's knowledge of that arrangment of the song).
