Which contemporary artists do you think Prince is listening to now?

I feel like nowadays Prince has been mostly listening to his childhood influences (ie. James Brown, Parliament) rather than contemporary music.

It's no secret he's fan of Alicia Keys, Janelle Monae, and Beyonce. I think he's sort of an Outkast fan too but they haven't released anything in a while.

So what do you think, of the contemporary artists, is on Prince's record/cd player (we know he doesn't use iTunes or internet) these days? Who do you think he should give a listen to?

IMO he should definitely give Raphael Saadiq and Cee-Lo a listen if he hasn't already. Their albums were crazy soulful. I think they're pretty good examples of what Prince likes in an artists: real singers, songwriters and musicians. Plus, like him, they're soulmen.

Lol I just thought to throw Raphael and Cee Lo in there b/c I feel like they're different since Prince's favorite artists these days are usually women, no offense to them, the above mentioned women are talented and beauties smile

"He bought four DVDs, including The Gospel according to Al Green, Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions, and the night James Brown played Boston." -- according to a London Bookstore Shopkeeper (July 2011). He's famously said he doesn't listen to contemporary music.

He talked about Adele and Janelle being the people he frequently listens to. Don't know who else.

Bilal & D'Angelo are inches away from slobbering his knobs, yet he's giving them the cold shoulder.

it didn't kick into high gear until around 2004, after these two had slunk back into obscurity. up until then, he was still into whatever washed up has-been was prepared to lather up his ass to get an album/tour out of it.

Sinead was a beautiful woman with her head shaven. Shame that she seems to be living a nightmare now.

I do gotta admit she did look beautiful during the Nothing Compares 2 U era, but now she looks like the woman in Alien

Among the many covers Prince plays live nowadays, he should choose some Sinead's tunes so that she can recover a bit of self-esteem. lol

I think the opening acts on the W2A tour in the states was like getting a look into
Prince's iTunes.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

He's definitely a fan of both.

Cee-Lo was a guest artist at one of his W2A concerts (in NY I think?), where he sang "Forget You" wink

Raphael Saadiq performed with him recently at the NPG Music & Arts Festival in Denmark (http://npgfestival.dk/)

So....good call on both counts wink

I like Amy, don't know Adele her work that much. However, isn't that very mainstream? I sure hope he listens to more exciting music than that.

He said he likes Adele in a Interview. I think that was on "The Guardian". It was recently. On the same interview that he talked about burqa.
