It seemd written to be easy middle of the road catching folks. Thise syrupy lyrics? Goawd. Its as if late 80's Lionel Ritchie wrote them. Plus iirc , Frank Dileo was his manager then, making Prince work the album like Prince was a 9 to 5 everyday Joe, doing Olympics opening, radio, etc. hahah no enimga shit anymore, just get out there and sell this "pleasing" record to "get a hit on the charts boy!" I mean I remeber watching that Special Olympics show and seeing Prince thinking "wtf? How da hell is HE on there?" And the music..oh how uninspiring and SAFE.

Who cares if people loved it? Of course they did. It was shoved down their throats.

I totally agree with you.

But I think this album inspired a whole heap of people to like his music that otherwise would have not.

Shut up already, damn.

"Who cares if people loved it? Of course they did. It was shoved down their throats." Wow that's a lot of disrespect for a very good song. It's a catchy love pop song and it was a huge success. It may not be innovative or groundbreaking but it showed and still does, what a good songwriter Prince is!

It is not a gpood song. Prince does not mix well with an Aretha Franklin style voice.

Yall like it, fine. But look at where you hear the song. In grocery stores and such. Cream is a much better song even tbhough thats also an "easy" one lol.

These songs were not very inspired. They were created to appeal to a pop audience with no danger to the songs etc. You're okay with that? Cool lol.

The song and project was sooooo simple safe that Prince had to show his ass out of his pants at the MTV awards to give the project and his profile that good ol purple spice again.

Oh come on, artists dont need to be pushing boundaries for the song to be good and it is very possible for a song that was meant to be succesful to be good. The melody is great, the production simple, but solid, and theres nothing wrong with the lyrics. I mean really, just because the song wasnt "dangerous" doesnt mean its bad.

Now that being said I agree that the album as a whole was very very bland, and incredibly disapointing. But songs like Diamonds and Pearls, Insatiable, Money Don't Matter 2 Night, Cream, and Gett Off are quality songs that could have made 80's albums easily. But then again, its all subjective.

EDIT: Its kinda funny that your complaining that Prince actually did some promotion, if he did more of that in the 80's he would be much more remembered today.

My favorite song of all time worship I fell in love with this song at first listen-just beautiful. I really heart the live Special Olympics version-to die 4! So a big thanks to Prince for creating my favorite song! heart Any appreciation? Dislike? lol nice vid too nod

That version should have been the one on the album. It is a complete masterpiece. Whether Prince set out to have this album a pop hit(which it was)Was accomplished. Frank Dileo did his job. The Arsenio per4mance was one of if not his best live Per4mance ever. The video was well done & gave Prince another top 10 hit. People always complain when he is not making hits & when he did they still complaining. All of U D&P haters stfu

I only started appreciating Diamonds and Pearls, I've never listened to it as much as I have been recently giggle

I love the contrast of Prince's deep vocals with the syrupy sweet melody and lyrics fallinluv

I don't know, out of no-where this song has decided to enthral me and I can't stop listening!
