PEACH & BLACK PODCAST: Greatest TV Performances Episode - The results!!

Hey all. We finally got around to completing our 'Greatest TV Performances' survey. We had hundreds of votes! Now hear us count down the top 10...

Episode link: http://peachandblack.podb...rformances

Podcast link: http://peachandblack.podbean.com

Let us know what you think!

Oh, and please try not to spoil any surprises for anyone by posting the list in this thread. We want people to listen to it (as 3 out of 4 of us did when recording this episode) not knowing what is coming next. It makes it a much more enjoyable listen!

I was really surprised that the UTCM premier concert on MTV didn't rank in the top ten!

It definately kicks ass over SNL Fury:-|

To answer you guys in the podcast re: 'what is Patrice Rushen doing there' - Prince wanted her in the band at one point, but it never happened.

Shame.

fishslap @ Captain for the comment re: #10, but lol at the 'p' comments. I pretty much agree with the the commentary on the rest of the survey. Although I like #4, I would've liked #7 in it's place and had #4 in the top 20. LOVE #'s 11, 12, & 13! I agree that the striped sweater worn in #13 wouldn't have been my personal choice for Prince, but God the man was feeling that particular song on that show.

The lip synched performance of 1999 you talked about at the end wasn't from Solid Gold was it? I can't recall offhand, but I do remember thinking while taking the survey, how much I loved that performance from back in the day. I hope that one vote wasn't me, but IF it was shrug lol

At the very end, you guys got me all touched Thanks for another great show!

Nah, the one that recieved 1 vote was one of the "Greatest Romance" lip-synched performances from the year 1999... Not the song "1999" from the 1983 performance.

Great podcast, guys! I was really surprised that "Motherless Child" from Septimo wasn't in the top 10. Prince's passionate singing and guitar playing was really moving and shocked me by how much he could reach in his lower-register when singing live. His showmanship was great and even Larry and Mike's Chuck Berry "duck walk" was a nice touch as well. I was shocked to hear what was the number 1 Greatest TV Performance. Top 5 but not number 1.

Prince's performance at the 2004 Rock N Roll Hall of Fame was incendiary and really the culmination of a great career. How many Hall of Fame inductees truly have great performances as great as their performances during the height of their career. The pimp-walk at the very end of "WMGW" was arrogant and just like Rock N Roll itself.

For some reason I was expecting that Dolphin performance with the mock-suicide to be there.

Bleedin' Fury though, great performance of a shitty song.

The 1993 Arsenio set was great fun

Dolphin on Letterman was very cool

As were Count The Days and Get Wild on The White Room

Ditto the Dinner with Delores/Zannalee performances.

I also liked his Rosie O'Donnell performances with a rare performance of Somebody's Somebody and a semi-rare Holy River.

Come On + Remix rocked Leno.

93-98, a clearly ignored era.

If it is then it is deservedly so even if the presenters were to act like it's only in for the assless pant novelty value.

Whoa big words from The Rev! lol

i agree about the UTCM premeire. That shit was tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight!

It always KILLED me that they cut it just when he started jammin

on the organ on Mutiny!! WTF?!

Definitely one of my favorite TV performances. I was 14 when I saw

that air live and i just though holy shit who the hell is cooler than that?!

The suit

The tight band

the tight medley

Eric Leeds

The dance moves

The frisky UTCM Prince

He NIALED it on that one.

Thank you for your efforts and the marvelous podcast from Down Under!
I immensely enjoyed listening to it and was intrigued by the
results of the poll.
Damn, I just started typing up a bunch of stuff about the
results, but I don't want to give it away.
Maybe it's ok to do it at the P&B forum?...

I was surprised one of my all time favorite live TV per4mances wasn't in the top 10 or 11-20. Some of the top 10 wasn't his greatest 2 me. But still liked the show. Keep up the good work P&B...

Ah, no.

Some of my picks would be Rosie O'Donnell, 1996, two very good Emancipation songs. The VH1 Honors where he did Interactive and Endorphin Machine.

Reflection was ok, but the Musicology, MTV acoustic jam was much better. Cream was to die for.

All you others say Hell Yea!! woot!

You could do a lot worse than track down the "TV Appearences Vol 00-16" dvd collection on the Chaplin label. Between them, they have the vast majority of Prince's TV appearences from 1980 to (I think) 2009.

The dvd's are not in chronological order, but the quality is nothing short of fantastic, and you will not find a more comprehensive collection of TV stuff anywhere.

Really enjoyed this podcast. Made me go back and watch these again. Speaking of which, Electric Chair on SNL was AMAZING. I think that was Prince's sexiest look ever. When he whipped his hair, I nearly fainted. Oh, and the song is great too. lol I especially liked the close-up on him when he sings the lyrics, "Let's take a drive love; So we can make up our minds love; To commit the crimes of passion that sets us free; Me loving u, you loving me." Wow...
