THE RELEASE-REHAB OF PRINCE now that his old companions are back in full effect

Now that The Time and The Family has proven that they can do it all by themselves and released new music back to back, how does a certain Prince feel about it being on this self-proclaimed recording rehab until further notice, respectively until the evil web has finally disappeared ....

Seeing his friends from back in the days still riding this conventional-waggon, I mean distributing their music as a standard-download and physical-item (CD), selling it on even more conventional outlets such as itunes and amazon?

Would he not love to compare his own new recordings (I am sure their exist some) against the brand new output of his old rivals? Who's more 'trendin'? We all know he's kind of jealous sometimes, isnt he?

Few even know they have new work out except for a select population of Prince fans. And none of it sounds like it'll get much play anywhere. Can't imagine why anyone would be jealous of that.

Change it one more time..

Let's call them by their new names The Original 7ven and FDeluxe, shall we?

how does a certain Prince feel about it being on this self-proclaimed recording rehab until further notice,

Probably doesn't care, he just didn't let them use the original band names, he never tried to stop any of their music.

respectively until the evil web has finally disappeared ....

Their choices are not his own and that's cool.

Who has he been jealous of before this? Also to be a rival implies you've either equaled or surpassed your competitor at some point in time. Neither band has ever done more than Prince.

That having been said I look forward to any former proteges coming out with new music and wish them well. I'll be at the NYC FDeluxe show next month and would go to an Original 7ven show here if they do one.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Who has he been jealous of before this?

Jealous? Well, I mean, if I was Prince and I would listen to that Strawberrius-Remix of Sanctified f.e., I would say damn they're funky as hell, I need to be very good to top that with my next release ... Sure, he has absolutely nothing to proove with his back-catalogue but what about the back-catalogue of Jimmy & Terry, that magic Flyte-Tyme stuff, which has been very successfull in the 80's/90's. I am sure there was some kind of 'comparison' going on back then ...

Regarding the distribution of music I am with Fdeluxe and The Original 7ven rather than with Prince's irrational beliefs of getting his music to the people ....

Jam & Lewis have had excellent success as producers but not as solo artists or even a musical group. Their most successful protege to date is Janet Jackson. Whereas Prince has proven he can perform what he writes quite well I don't think anyone is going to line up to hear Jam & Lewis' version of 'Nasty' with them on vocals.

Prince's distribution works for what he wants to do. FDeluxe and The Original 7ven are doing what works for them. Prince has still gotten his musc to those who want it and that was his intention all along. I'm sure the 2 groups have worked out what will work best for them as well.

It works for Prince, i.e. max $$$ for min. effort, but I'm not sure how well it's working for his audience. I remember loads of bitching from US fans at not being able to get 20Ten without buying from a 'scalper' on eBay, or knowing someone who'd send them a copy - still see it in fact.

If we're speaking by the modern definition of the word and what The Time are implying by the use of the hashtag, then Prince has, because "Purple Rain" was a trending topic on Twitter recently. Sometimes that happens when a movie comes on a certain channel, I've noticed.

Pretty sure Prince trended in the UK when he was on at Hop Farm this summer too.

You're from Brooklyn, right? So how did you manage to get your copy of 2010, honestly?

Ok, these 'strange ways' of distributing may be cool for Prince as far as his incomes are concerned but for any die-hard fan it's an only struggle! Since I am not a US resident I remember the mess until I could call Lotusflowr my own or the Planet Earth disaster ... I am curious how he's going to release his next output, should their ever be one. Maybe he's putting it on some kind of special USB-Stick with a secret-code you have to access from an even more secretly hidden website. Or what about a newspaper in Abu Dhabi?

TRENDIN: That's what Flyte Tyme was, most definitely! No matter if they were just producers or members of a band. Everybody back then wanted to work with them, everybody! And I remember an interview shortly after Emancipation was out. Prince was asked about the backround of some songs when he stated that Get Yo Groove On would make Jimmy proud or sth. like that ... There has been rivalry, and of course I do not mean that in a negative way.

I'm from Australia and I ordered a copy of the paper from the website, as did some of my friends. It was available for ages afterwards from memory.

You just had to pay for the cost of the paper, plus shipping, and a few weeks later, voila. One copy of the paper (is it bad that I've already forgotten which one it was? wink) with a CD enclosed.

That's one dedicated paper boy.

Lucky you! As I was in France at that time, I got mine from Courrier Intern. (newspaper) and I bought 3 issues just for 4 fun, 2 of them still shrinkwrapped in my closet just to look at them and remember how happy I was then biggrin . But I remember also the Lotusflowr experience, had to ask a friend who has an ebay-account to order the item 4 me and then it took nearly 4 weeks ... sad

For 20Ten my friend and I ordered the newspaper online and got 2 copies delivered to us. Cost us about 35 bucks total. No more than buying two CDs here stateside. Also don't let Americans fool you on the 'hardships' of acquiring 20Ten in any form. It was up for download 2 minutes after is got released in Europe. Then we all ordered it with the ease of buying a shirt online. I don't think any blood was shed.

Once anyone paid for a Lotusflow3r membership they could download the music as many times as they wanted into anyone's computer they wanted. I did it for several friends afterwards. At no extra cost and no hassle.

Gohi

I'm sure those bands won't make any money by releasing those albums... will probably take a few shows before they break even.

FDeluxe is doing exactly that. They have the music on iTunes and are touring and then selling the physical CDs at the shows. It should work out for them in time.

So I am happy for you, really. When I was still waiting for the CD to arrive, after 3 weeks or so, I decided to join Lotusflow3r.com to get the downloads. Considering the 77 USD entrance-fee it was a tuff desicion as I had not much money at that time and it would mean to me that I could not afford any other music for 3 months, at least. By the way, the TShirt never got me .... Ordered the UK newspaper with the Planet Earth Album at my bookstore next door, the mag. arrived but without CD, due to intern. restrictions and that within the EU! .... Joined the NPG Musicclub a week before it went offline, tried to get a partly refund for the memberfee but never received a respond .... And, sorry, but I cant see 2010 as a legal download overhere. What's even worse, I joined 2 horrible concerts this summer, in Luxembourg & Cologne. But I am still cool with him and I am eagerly awaiting a new release. Wiched only he would be more gentle to his fans and old music-companions sometimes.
