I think prince's modus operandi in giving away good songs was to feed the hungry(the underdogs/the under-utilized/the under-appreciated) & to starve the gluttonous(superstars who didnt need help). Example1:Sheena Easton was pigeoned-hole as pop/country/easy-listening but after feasting on "sugar walls", "u got the look" & "101" it was obvious she could bring da funk, da soul & da dance.

Example2:Madonna was the queen of pop & hoping 2 get filet mignon from label-mate prince but all she got was the ersatz "love song". prove my point that prince helped the needy & frustrated the greedy or show how i am all wet.

I wouldn't call the "Bangles," needy...I think they are a great girl group.

the word needy made 4 a good slogan. i am not suggesting that the bangles were helpless or that they were not destine 2 hit it big with or without help from prince. what i am saying is that the fact that they were not mega superstars with the release of "all over the place" in 1984 increased the likelihood that they would get a song from prince 4 the 4thcoming"a different light" in 1986.

The song came at the right time for them.
