I would even venture to say that emancipation was the period in which prince imprisoned prince. Ironic eh? Well realistically I would say it began with the gold experience. He just stopped being prince and started being consumed by outerworldly expectations of who he should be as a successful male musician. As a result his music tanked and prince lost himself.

Prince wasn't wild after that, the decline began with Emancipation, 1996.
