Thoughts on Remasters that are out??

remastered copies in vinyl of Dirty Mind, Controversy, 1999 and Purple rain are out. Do they sound much better and improved? I'm asking this to those who of course got their hands on them.

So far I only have 1999, DM and Con are on the way via mail this week. The sound ot me is Questionable since I only have Pioneer reciever and speakers with a Kenwood turntable. LRC still sounds distorted. But get his.. the overall cd actually has more volume to it as if thats been rmeastered (I know voulume setting doesnt mean rmeastered).

I have all three vinyl remasters and there is definite improvement over previous versions. Dirty mind in particular sounds better crisp sound and much more depth to the bass smile

I have Dirty Mind and Controversy, and the improvement is clear to my ears.

unless I missed a a lot of news this last week, i'm pretty sure there are no actual remasters released. There are however new 180gm LP pressings availible. No improvements or changes to the recording, just better quality trasnfer onto the LP.

Also you could be refering to the Japanese SHM discs release a couple of years back, those to are not remasters though. Same story with those, better quality material.

That's what a remaster is (and Bernie Grundman's company confirmed that he remastered them for vinyl). Any "improvements or changes to the recording" would involve a remix. But you're right that the only remasters out there are the vinyl reissues. This was all discussed in the earlier thread.

Actually, I would say these remasters are impressive. I remember the first seconds of Dirty Mind, I thought I hadn't listened to Prince's music with such an excellent sound before.

You know, ultimately all that technical stuff and whether these records are "remasters"or not, doesn't mean shit. Just make sure the records sound as good possible. And It appears they did good job at that, so cheers.

However, you have to wonder why they sell it as "new 180gm LP pressings" and wouldn't straight out sell it as "REMASTERS" if they actually were.
