Yep, it is indeed a yummy track. Probably my favorite on the album. "Sticky Like Glue" and "Laydown" are pretty good, too.

I never really got the praise for this song, musicwise that is

The verses are quite promising melodywise, but again, like with so many of his songs from the 00's their is no real chorus to lift the song above average. The song just doesnt go anywhere for me, and the finale sounds forced to me.

Instant neo classic

after the weak MPLSound ballads/slow jams this was pure, unexpected gold

Yes. At the final night of rhe North Sea Jazz Festival. It was the first time I heared it and didn't really know what to think of it. Sounded a bit too much like Michael Jackson and coming from me that's not a compliment. But it did have some nice melodies.

Okay version, try hunting down the Copenhagen 2010 version, that's spectacular

Its a wonderful piece of music I declare. Prince's vocals on it just do something to me. It probably is the best song on the album and definately an instant classic that he should be performing live alot. I've seen it live and was unable to move throughout the performance, the vocals and guitar playing was THAT good and moving. Wow, gives me chills just thinking about it. It set the mood for the night since it was the opener! My fave part of the song is "in the absence of fear and control, is the sound of the surrending soul, louder than the dogmatic persecution.." mmmm biggrin

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

I don't know what galaxy you exist in but Future Soul Song sounds nothing like an MJ song--and that is from someone who listened to MJ since he was five years old. Future Soul Song totally belongs to Prince--and it is transporting to hear it live. cool

I knew somebody was going to react on this!
But that was a first impression, okay?

It is a great beautiful song! The lyrics and the arrangements work well! I love that guitar solo and the way the ending perfectly summarizes the song. It just gets better and better the more your listen to it! smile

ITA!! Also the way he starts out in a rich baritone and the way he works the song throughout the different vocal registers just shows his ability is beyond stellar and top notch!!!

YES! smile That is what I am saying! That song is fantastic! smile TOP NOTCH! smile

Again, i dont consider this a neo classic at all. Its a matter of sloppy songwriting, sloppy execution.

The song has no chorus, or if he sees it as a chorus: its a matter of lazy songwriting, he just copies himself in the built up, throwing in some forced sounding 'The Beautifull ones' finale. The entire song feels like its clumsily 'glued' together.

The Dance from 3121 (which, indeed also uses a 'The Beatifull ones' finale, but in a more fluent way) is a better R&B-ish balled. The same goes for Call my name from Musicology.

Best "released" song for years.

Future Soul Song is awesome.

It could have made it to the Top10 charts worldwide with the right promotion imo.

Interesting. I never saw this song as an R&B-ish ballad. Actually, I wouldn't even compare it to the songs you listed.

Prince is a very gifted ballad writer. I don't know if u would call this a love song which is usually what ballads are. But I guess again U could. Because it speaks of his love of a higher power. That he doesn't care how U judge him because of it. Its written very cleverly..Not preachy.

I love this song!

"And when my voice rose, so did the sun
When the trees sang the harmony as one
Every living soul sang the most beautiful
Melody ever sung"

Spiritual/quantum/amazing!

I've had it on repeat for over 2 months everyday whilst i chip away at work!
