me
TRC is Princes 4th turning point classic
The first one was Dirty Mind where he became Prince as we know him. Freaknasty punkfunk.
1999-the culmination of his technology and songwriting with synths and geetar. PR is an extension of this.
SOTT, the grand statement on musical past. A master at all of them and major turning point. After the synth-fried geetar heavyness of Controversy, 1999 and Rain, a more warmth to the music that was started with Parade but completed on SOTT.
TRC, was a return to form and musicianship. This was his Achtung Baby or All That You Cant Leave Behind. "Climb in my fur."

I love it.
I don't have a top ten and I'm not generally a fan of ranking things, but if I had a favourite this would be it - it's my "go-to" album when I just want to curl up on the couch and listen to something really special.
Oh, and I absolutely love Last December

Tried listening to it again the other day and liked 2-3 songs on it. For the most part, it is unlistenable. I really wouldn't rank any of his post WB albums in my personal top 10. He still has occasional brilliance on a few of his tracks, but overall I'm just not there with him on it. He's welcome to create what he wants as an artist and we are welcome to not reward him/not reward him financially for creating art we don't enjoy.
There is a reason that he didn't play any TRC tracks on the recent European tour. Did he play any on the american leg of this tour? The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. I would include it, even in my top3, I like concept albums like this. And he really puts himself out there, not caring about the commercial aspect. Plus the instrumentation is great.

Agreed, but best CD his put out since 2000's on. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

YES!!!
But, it feels a bit like sitting through one of Mozart's lesser operas. You know it's brilliant--that's obvious....but lawd you can't help thinking "If that fat lady belts out one more note, Imma die!"

I like the fact that he had something he wanted to say on that album and he said it, not caring what people think. In that way it's similar to his best work. Unfortunately, I don't dig what he had to say on The Rainbow Children and I have a hard time getting past the lyrics. "Family Name" is awfully funky though.
Right now I wish he would release an album of songs about why copyright laws are unfair to mega-superstars, since he seems to feel passionate about that more than anything else. I don't like it when he releases music that he cares little about. Obviously he wasn't that passionate about his message in 20Ten (if he had a message) because he didn't even bother to get it released outside of Europe. The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.

It's really weird, but despite my dislike towards organized religion, I find this album to be one of my absolute favourites.

Me. It's easily up there with 1999, Purple Rain, Parade, Sign "O" The Times and The Gold Experience.

I've never thought about The Rainbow Children in these terms, but I like it a lot. You have a point here. Sadly, without the commercial success of Achtung Baby, but artistically, yes, definitely.

Last December is the best song on The Rainbow Children and easily in the top five songs from 2000-2010 in my opinion. I'm shocked that anyone could hate that song.
Don't worry, I love Graffiti Bridge too. I even love The Arms Of Orion. I must be really sick in the head

I like The Arms Of Orion, but I wouldn't say I love it. I may be one step behind you in the insanity race.

It is one of mine. It is very complex and thoughful. It's hard to listen to it again as a whole like Lovesexy...it can be much at times to take it all in. Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

Today, at this moment...
1. Sign O' (why do we not have a peace sign emoticon? That's ridiculous! There must be SOMEBODY who can code that pretty easily.) the Times 2. Purple Rain 3. 1999 4. Parade 5. Lovesexy 6. The Rainbow Children 7. Around the World in a Day 8. 3121 9. Musicology 10. Controversy
This changes fluidly all the time. I'm just saying...

Definitely Me! I can't dismiss that album! It's a sincere gem, and despite the "Jehovah Witnesses" overtones; the production, is crystal perfect. It's actually the first album I listened to as a whole from Prince from start to finish! I am yet amazed, at how he arranged it like this. It was like a story containing all the necessary components in making it excellent! It's one impeccable album! I recently told my girlfriend; because she asked. "Should I listen to 'The Rainbow Children?...Is it a good album"
I told her "Yes, if you can overlook the BOLD Jehovah Witnesses overtones, and appreciate the aspects of the productions infused with jazz (Which she loves) I think you will enjoy it...Even if it might take time to grow on you, it's a masterpiece!
She was like "A MASTER PIECE???.,..That might be going too far." BUT NOPE! I reside at my stand, I really think it is a masterpiece EVEN with the Darth Vadar voice...lol..I actually like that about it, It is a perfect narration, his own voice would have sounded too personal..I don't know? It's awesome though! lol It's Button Therapy, Baby!

Indeed. This album hasn't any flaws, in my opinion. With time, it may even climb into my Top 5. Tomorrow I'll open The Rainbow Children poll! We'll have a good time ranking the songs of this masterpiece!
