Drive Me Wild is funkyy, but I can't see Prince using it. It was perfect for Vanity 6 imo. I know Susan's vocals are weak but it was great anyways.

The Time - Get It Up (When I first heard this track it instantly became one of my favorites! TLC does the best version of the song, but The Time also nails it on the head! I love it, and he gave it away to a worthy people..lol With This Tear - Celine Dion; She is one of my ultimate favorite singers, and while man criticize her for making "Elevator music"...I would much rather live in the elevator if she is always singing..lol. I think 'With This Tear' is an exceptional song to give Celine Dion for her first album released in the USA the lyrics are FANTASTIC, and the production sounds like something Prince produced, even though it isn't; I can imagine him doing something like this on 'Diamonds & Pearls' possibly? It serves some place somewhere!! lol
As for Nothing Compares 2 U....... I never could get into this song; it's boring to me. It does not matter who it is; singing it..Sinead O O'Connor, Shelby J.... ..lol. Or Prince; it does not strike me as profound or an emotional song. I don't get the hype...lol
I am only saying this because my girlfriend recently told me; she cries when listening to this song; and I am like what??? lol. It's never been that emotional appealing; however Power Fantastic that does it to me! Haha..Different strokes for different folks I guess? lol
Anyways..those are my choices! It's Button Therapy, Baby!

^- -There are recording of Cyndi Lauper, Mitch Ryder and Bette Bright, -each has sung Prince's 'When You Were Mine'.

Oh, and The Sex of It. I love Prince's version. Wish he would have kept that for himself.

Stevie Nicks' "Stand Back". Originally, she took complete credit for it. Prince didn't get credit until years later. That would be a song he truly gave away.

It should have been a b-side.

Okay, you REALLY think "Koo Koo" is one of the "best" tracks he's given away (never mind that ASCAP doesn't show him as a writer of that tune, but we all know how murky that sometimes gets)?? From your 3 lists there, you just seem to be naming ANY song he's written for other people, quality be damned!

Get It Up by TLC absolutely SUCKS!!! It's completely devoid of any funk, and should've been left alone. Hell, Prince probably only allowed that shit because he wanted some of that Chilli punanny!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
The TLC cover was ooooookay but definitely not the best cover of it IMHO lol I hated Timbaland's interpolation of it on some track...

I'll mention a great one from the 1990s: "Allegiance".
The very best? Probably "A Love Bizarre" or "The Dance Electric".

Hahahaha! WOW! You got to be joking with me? A song does not need 'Funk' all the time to make it good. Sure I love funk, and it's amazing when I hear the raw and power of funk, but I don't need it all the time. It needed the R&B flow to it, it defined the sounds of the 90's in many ways. The harmony of the song, the rap insert, and the overall rap feeling is what makes it an incredible cover. Hahaha..However...lol. It's sooooo funny when you mentioned Chilli! Hahaha, Prince and everyone else wanted that back in the day! Hell; who still wouldn't want it now? Haha

"What Have U Done 4 Me Lately?" - Apparently! Did we ever get any facts about who wrote that?

^- -THAT IS interesting! -I wouldn't be surprised to find out Prince wrote a lot for other artist back in the 80's -In order for Bowie to say, "The 80's belongs to Prince," it MUST be absolute truth!

_As I look through notes, -I see so many artists who covered Prince's music too. -Steve Nieve -Meli'sa Morgan -Freedom -Debra Hurd -Stephanie Mills -Rebbie Jackson -Chaka Chan -Pointer Sisters -Mary wells -Millie Jackson -Princess and the Starbreeze -Age of Chance -Art of Noise -Tom Jones -Blood Uncles -Tina Tuner -Sandra Bernhard -rebecca De Mornay -Sinead O' Conner -Cheyne -La toya Jackson -Evan Rogers

Sigh...Prince never wrote that. He was JOKING when he asked who wrote it on the Nude Tour. And even if he wasn't, he only asked WHO wrote it, not declared that HE wrote it.

No, not every song needs "funk" to make it good. However, if the song is originally a funk jam/workout, then it's sacrilegious to neuter it like they did and then add some lame ass rap to it!! They basically turned a roarin' lion into a squeaky mouse that deserved to get stepped on.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Haha..Well to each is own, I did not think it was bad at all. lol. It started out funky, and in a lot ways I see why it would be cool to leave it that way, but the added edge is harmless for me. The rap was sexy... It's Button Therapy, Baby!
