Nude Tour Videos

I have a question for you experts. I've noticed that VH1 Soul plays quite a few clips from Prince's Nude Tour. I believe it was shot in Japan. My question is was that concert broadcast on television here in the states? Or was it just serviced to video outlets in 1990 to help promote the "Graffiti Bridge" project?

IDK which videos u r referring to, exactly, but 2 Nude Tour concerts were broadcast on TV:

One 90mn Tokyo concert was broadcast entirely (at least in Japan, I guess), and later was edited to a 60 mn version which was sold to various TV stations worldwide. I'm not sure about this, but I think that a promo video of The Question Of U was taken from this concert and sent to music TV stations, despite the song not being released as a single. It's very likely that your VH1 videos come from this show.

A Spanish concert was also broadcast entirely in Spain, live as it was happening, and never broadcast again as far as I know.

Both versions are circulating on various bootlegs, with various levels of quality. For the record, yet another Spanish show was broadcast entirely live, this time on a spanish radio, and it's circulating as well.

I seen the performance of "Alphabet St." on VH1 Soul, I thought they were showing the whole concert. But all of a sudden, the video goes off.

Thanks for the info.

The videos I am referring to seems to come from the same show that the "video" for "The Question Of U" was shot (that's on the Graffiti Bridge DVD).

VH1 Soul has shown "Alphabet St." and "When Doves Cry" in addition to "TQOU."

They originally showed many of those clips from the Japanese concert on Friday Night Videos (NBC) in the states. I taped it way back then. (1989 or 1990?)

VH1 seemed to start showing them around late 1990.

Nude tour was during the Batman album, Rock in Rio happened after during Graffiti Bridge. Very similar tour style but Rock in Rio included Diamonds and Pearls material which hadn't even come out yet.

Rock In Rio is essentially the same as The Nude Tour, with the difference being a couple of tracklist changes, and also the RIR band lineup feautured Sonny T and Tommy Barbarella for the first time.

The Japanese leg of The Nude Tour took place after the release of Graffiti Bridge too.

Dates culled from the internet:

Prince grows a trimmed beard configuration with Phylicia Rashad's hairstyle lol

Nude tour (with Batman album songs included ) starts June 02, 1990 (I remember reading the Melody Maker review at Tower Records)

Graffiti Bridge album came out August 20, 1990 (aprox 3 months later)

last Nude tour date in Japan was September 10, 1990,(approx 20 days later)

the Graffiti Bridge movie slipped and fell on its face on November 2, 1990 (approx 2.5 months later)

Rock in Rio (with Diamonds and Pearls material) was in Jan 18, 1991. (approx 5 months later). Prince still had the Graffiti Bridge trimmed beard with Phylicia Rashad's hairstyle look.

Typhoon style appears on his head before the release of Diamonds and Pearls.

The first time I recall seeing those clips were from a show that was on every Friday night on MTV called Friday Night Street Party and Nia Peeples was the host. It was the night of the premiere of the Graffiti Bridge movie and they were in New York live. I remember Alphabet St and When Doves Cry. They showed a clip of Prince arriving in all white, but ofcourse he said nothing. cool
