Prince road blocks The Times next release!

On 8/17/2011 Per: The (TJMS) "Tom Joyner Morning Show " it was reported that Morris Day along with all the other original members of The Time, including Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Have all written and recorded new material for a new Time release. But, as Billy Sparks once put it -'There's just one problem though'-. The Kid .aka. the artist formally known as .bka. Prince, says he owns the rights and copyrights to The Time. In other words if they want to release any new material they better come up with a new name! Come on Prince 30+ years later and u still have a grudge? This Band was know doubt one of Prince's most successful side projects ever and now u abort them?

Sounds like a no-brainer to me. Just think of a new name and get the record out there! Weren't they originally called FlyteTime or something? There you go then... stirthepot pimp chocolate

You know what...I'm tired of this BS!! mad The guys should just come up a new name and release it now!! No more delays,no more drama!! They could call themselves something like...

Morris Day and The Gigolos

Cool Inc.

The Cool Gigolos

it doesn't matter...just come up with a new name and release the CD!! Time fans will know who they are,no matter what name they use.

...

If The Family can come up with a new name (FDeluxe),finish an album ('Gaslight') and set a release date (September),there is no reason why Morris and the guys can't do the same!

Prince sucks for this. Why he hating on them. They can come up with a new name, but the original will give them much more success commercialy. I dont why P is doint this. He can get a cut from their earnings with the original name or nothing at all. So why?

Yeah,I'm not letting Prince off the hook.He is so wrong for doing this disbelief but the guys need to just accept it and go to Plan B.They have other options.

Morris Day walked away from Prince's prefab group "The Time" to find fame and Fortune on his own. Good for him! But also leaving Prince and WB high and dry with his pseudo group.

St. Paul walked away from Prince's prefab group "The Family" to go and find fame and fortune on his own. Good for him! But also leaving Prince and WB high and dry with his pseudo group.

So now they all want to come crawling back, bottom lip protruding and pouting. My my, what happened to their dreams of fame and fortune being their own men instead of clinging to their manufactured high-school glory.

I realize people need to make a buck, but having self respect is also important.

I doubt Alan Leeds will come here to try and gather support for a pity party for The Time like he did for FDeluxe, since his brother had no involvement in The Time.

this really doesn't have to be a big issue. They can simply come up with a new name, release the album and move on.It's really that simple.

prince has been playing "jungle love" and "the bird" in concert a lot lately

its too bad friendships sour and that prince can't acknowledge the work they all put into it live, in movies, and as an influence, muse for the work. i have no doubt the attitude and lyrical style came from the real members of the time and prince wrote music to fit things he had heard them say and their general swagger. prince would not have written those songs (if he actually wrote them) without the band there to play them.

just because prince name is credited does not mean everyone else did nothing to make those songs be a hit for prince. considering prince has ruined his own name with embarrassing work he should not care if the time put out a bad record (not that its guaranteed) and he should just sell them the name back and let it go .. let the vibe just flow

If this is indeed true, a big FUCK YOU to Prince!!!! What the fuck is HE going to do with the name? I mean, really! Besides, I thought Prince had given them permission long ago to use that name. Or was that just for the reunion shows in Vegas? Surely if this is true, Prince would've let them know a long time ago that he wouldn't allow use of the name, so this shouldn't come as a surprise to them.

Like you said, get another name, and quickly move on. Please. Call yourselves The Original Time and release the shit!!

They can't just call themselves The Seconds or The Minutes or The Artists Formerly Known as The Time or whatever else they can think of? Nobody cares about their name. We'll all figure out who they are.

The Time supposedly had this album in the can for years. The problem probably isn't Prince, it's probably that they can't get a record deal to put out the album, especially if Prince isn't involved in the creation. They tour all the time and they were recently here in Connecticut, so they make money without Prince. If they want people to hear new songs, perform them on tour and tell people these are new songs. Or they can press their own cds and give them away at concerts like Prince. They can get the music out if they really wanted to. Maybe leak the album and it can be bootlegged and be the next biggest bootleg other than the Black Album, LOL!

You know nothing about the creative process, do you? lol

Finally Prince ran out of ways to evade the situation, and told the guys what they needed to know (probably with a Cease and Desist). I think they would ultimately have NO PROBLEM in the marketplace as 'The Original Time Band', but I doubt all members really want to put stuff out without Prince's blessing. The guys should get with Sheila/Appolonia/WendyandLisa/Fdeluxe and tour. We would eat that bill up. Most Prince fans (not talking to you FAMS/stans) are worn out after 20 years of contract drama with Prince and just want to have a good time with the bands and songs we grew up on.

It sucks that they can´t release this album but seriously, what would you do if you were Prince? It is entirely his creation, his project and his music, and if they wrote a bunch of new songs then it´s alright and I´d still check it out but come on, it simply isn´t "The Time" without Prince´s involvement, and it shouldn´t be called a "Time" album if Prince is not involved.

Now the reasons WHY he isn´t or doesn´t want to be involved can be debated forever but, what I´m saying is, THE TIME is totally his product and I can relate to why he´s blocking this release.

It´s just a spin-off project without Prince, maybe not even that, and it shouldn´t be released as a TIME album. He´s got every right to block the release under that moniker.

It would be cool though if they settled their disputes and disagreements and wrote new songs together.

And remember it was Morris who didn´t want to come to the Family Jamm years ago because of money issues, and Sheila mocked him for that, so Morris is not really any better than Prince as far as money and business are concerned.

" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Prince created the Time..Prince was/IS The Time to a large extent. Those first two albums are just Prince records...he wrote and recorded all the music and played most all the instruments. He just had Morris follow his vocal track on them. The third album probably wasn't much different.

Those guys are talented but he gave them their careers...or at least the start of them. Then Jam/Lewis and Jesse went on to do some great work, but that was after The Time.

Prince deserves two or three tracks on the album and a cut of the proceeds. If not, he is just giving them charity.

I couldn't agree more smile

While the Time built their reputation for being a badass on stage in studio is another story.

Jimmy Jamm,Terry Lewis while being very good producers and songwriters never wrote anything

remotely close to the :777-9311,The Stick,Get It Up,The Walk,Gigolos Get Lonley Too,Girl,Chocolate.

Prince wrote and played every instrument on these songs.

every song have characteristic epic funk bass line with great hooks.

Prince is the Time

and the Time album without Prince is not the Time.
