Complete and utter nonsense. Prince wrote the hits for Sheila E and Morris day, not the other way around. He has written plenty and plenty of great music by himself. Prince doesn't owe sheila or morris anything, he wrote hits for them and if he wants to play the songs that HE WROTE HIMSELF, he has every bit a right to. If i was your girlfriend is a pure prince composition. Not wendy, not lisa, not sheila, not morris, not anyone except Prince. Prince got so famous because he is a genius who wrote many great songs, not only for himself but for others. Why shouldnt he make money from the songs that he wrote HIMSELF? Just because you cannot accept that prince has written tons of great songs on his own doesnt mean it not true. He worked hard to write those songs and if his bandmembers were such geniuses, they would have be regarded as great songwriters which they were not. Prince was famous because he busted his ass, no one else did it for him. I am not talking loud, i have owned you every single time you have made a laughable post on this thread. Making up lies about songwriting isnt going to change the fact that Prince is a songwriting genius.

Guy, stop wanking to the man in the mirror.
Prince's lamest effort is a gazillion times better than your best. At least it sounds like music, even if it's not good music IT DOES sound like music.
I can't say that of the 'things' you do.
Trust me, even Kamasutra is MARVELLOUS compared to THAT.
And these are not my usual 'shitting on somebody'-posts. I'm not joking at all. It's plain to see you have a big problem, hence the shrink suggestion.
kama sutra .. really???? now i am hurt .. that is the deepest insult .. vanilla ice has records better than kama sutra .. kama sutra .. by prince ... your hero .. sold you .. shit .. another example of his ability to master every genre i suppose .. right up there with his jazz and rap skillz .. and u calling me on wanking in the mirror is the pot calling the kettle black maaan .. i still enjoy your efforts .. if u think prince mpls sucks and I suck, well then thats fine by me .. "here" and "dance 4 me" are his best efforts in several decades .. |

prince is a great songwriter .. but so am i .. prince had help making his great songs really big hits .. other people worked hard on those songs to bring them mass attention and put them on display in a better light than prince could have or did .. kiss would not be great without the arranging and production .. morris and sheila all put hard work into representing those songs and putting their own touch on them that made them great .. prince and prince fans should respect that .. when did i say prince did not write "girlfriend" .. i never said that .. ur confused again .. own your confusion .. he should make money on songs he wrote .. but so should those who worked to make those songs massive selling hits .. they are not just "work for hire" to be discarded and uncredited and unappreciated by prince obssesives who think he pees liquid gold

if he writes a song on his own, no one else should get any credit or money for it (except money for playing instruments on the song which those musicians did get). Kiss is one song, and Prince doesn't owe anything to Morris or Sheila and those songs would be hits without Morris or sheila adding anything to them. There is no need to exxagerate the musicians who worked around Prince. Prince wrote most of his best songs by himself and no one else should get credit for this except himself. Appearently Prince owes the people he wrote hits for
Prince fans give credit to the revolution for computer blue and mountains, to sussanah for Starfish and Coffee and so on. It does not mean they should be given credit for songs they had absolutely nothing to do with. And that is precisely what you keep doing. |

C-NOTE, NEWS, Xpectation, & The Rainbow Children are brilliant! Prince reveals his true genius on "NEWS." It's a genuine masterpiece from beginning to end. I wish he had continued on this path. I'm sure he probably writes and records instrumental music like this quite often, I just wish he would release it.

And with this I'm leaving this thread. I've already contributed stating what I thought about what the OP proposed and feel unable to keep on reading your daydreams. I really pity you. |

I heard some songs from N.E.W.S., I thought they were good. Some of his songs have jazz arrangements like "Power Fantastic". [Edited 8/19/11 13:00pm] |

AHH! Power Fantastic can NEVER do any wrong to my ears! They lyrics, the structure and the massive appeal it has to me brings this to the NUMBER 1 SPOT. It is easily one of his best songs ever! It's Button Therapy, Baby! |

Hahaha..I mean seriously? You may be a great songwriter but that does not put you on the same level as Prince. Those who have worked with Prince are given much credit for what they do; The revolution and the NPG are often given credit. They were not disqualified, BUT FOR MOST OF THE WORK..It's Prince that produces it. You seem to be minimizing Prince's input on all of his work. I know he does not pee liquid...No one does.. I have to say N.E.W.S. is an exceptional album! I really think in the past years it will get the praise it deserves! I think it is VERY brilliant and I listen to it quite frequently! ALL of the songs always take me somewhere, but 'North' by far is one of my favorite songs by Prince; it is amazing!
So my expectations were very high when I played 'Xpectation'. However, I was not amazed, I only like 3 songs on that album, the rest literally bored me to DEATH! However "Xcognite, Xogenous, and Xpand are awesome. I stuck through it all after the first listen, and after it finished I just could not stop shaking my head. LOL. So after giving it sometime I heard it again, but I could not handle it most of it again except those 3 tracks, so I fast forwarded a lot of it, it did not strike me in the ways I thought it was capable of.
I have yet to hear C-Note, but I am hoping it's as great as N.E.W.S. And the Rainbow Children is one Prince's most creative masterpieces! I love the jazz within this album and it really always speaks to me. I love when he does Jazz, you can see he does it well because of the early bringing up of his father. I think he is exceptional in the arrangement of jazz; where he places the horns, drums, and piano. I like that he adds that jazzy feel to most of his songs.
I want more material belonging to the family of N.E.W.S. & The Rainbow Children!

Compared to real fusion bands who create with each other (Return to Forever, Weather Report, the Flecktones, Headhunters, etc.) Prince suffers from it being a one man show for the most part. His stuff is bits and peices that don't add up to a whole. NEWS is a noodle session. Some great playing with no cohesion. Xpectation, Cnote...meh. Sounded cranked out in a short period of time. His best idea was probably Madhouse because Eric Leeds sax is one of the more unique sounding horns out there. Compositionally it was more funky..but I think THAT is where he had a good isea and should have expanded. The other stuff has been tepis imo. Again- if he would ACTUALLY collaborate (I assume Madhouse was that because Leeds wrote his own parts) he might put something good together. |

I enjoy the jazz-ish forays very much, particularly N.E.W.S. (even after all these years, I still don't have the Madhouse albums! ).
I think it was smart of Prince not to promote those records as 'jazz' records. It's simply an experiment/flirtation with other forms, and these are the kinds of albums I appreciate the most. When people ask me to point to the good stuff in the post-Gold Experience period, I point straight to The Rainbow Children, N.E.W.S., and Lotusflower.
I know it ain't 'real' jazz, but I'll take 'Welcome to the Lotus' over 'Hot Wit U' any day of the week! PRINCE: the only man who could wear high heels and makeup and STILL steal your woman! |
