there is absolutely no evidence that most of prince's work was written in "collaborations", some of it was, yes, but prince wrote plenty of great songs on his own. Just because some anti Prince trolls have created this myth that most of Prince's work was "collaborations" doesn't make it true, its just trolling. And whether someone likes the NPG or not, calling them a "cheap band" is utterly ridicolous. They were (and still are) a very skilled band full of talented musicians.

Prince doesn't need to develop the skills of a "full-fledged jazz musician" to be able to release good fusion jazz records. He could just play his guitar in his usual rock style and have the other musicians play the jazzier licks. Or he could play the Rhodes himself.

For some reason whenever he does instrumental stuff he gives them a distasteful production with all kinds of synth sounds thrown in the mix and tons of digital reverb on the instruments. The drums also play fairly straightforward rock patterns. No wonder it doesn't really sound like classic jazz.

The reason why Prince's "jazz" stuff like "N.E.W.S" might be boring isn't just due to Prince's own playing. I don't find the playing by Eric Leeds and the others being up to their usual standards either. They've had far more interesting licks on the funk / pop stuff and live.

I find some of the more adventurous pop / funk tunes of his to be closer to the spirit of "real jazz" than his instrumental releases. You can hear the influence of classic jazz stuff on them. Having said, I "N.E.W.S" is a surprisingly enjoyable album to listen to despite its flaws.

Back on topic. I love N.E.W.S, The Rainbow Children, C-NOTE and Xpectation. This was such a musically fruitful period for Prince. I have to remind myself, though, that he is really a pop artist first.

Grow up. Your jealousy of Prince is evident. Prince was not given any golden ticket, he had to prove that he could not only write songs but also play guitar, bass, dums and piano at that age. Obviously he put in alot of work to get a record deal by that age, he wasn't born playing multiple instruments. His musicianship alone (on For You) is astonishing for an 18 year old (infact its astonishing for a musician of any age). If you are claiming to be so great, i'd like to see your musicianship now. I very much doubt that even at your age, you could come anywhere near the level of musicianship that an 18 year old Prince displayed. Not only that but in only his second record , he had already written a hit song. He wasn't given a record deal for no reason, he was given a record deal because he was mega talented. Its a pity you can't handle that.

I never claimed to be a musician. You are the one trolling these forums proclaiming your songs to be greater than Prince's recent material. This isn't a Prince vs Dylan contest either. Nobody laughs at Prince and nor is his carrear ruined. He sells out where ever he goes. One of his guitar solo has nearly 5 million views on youtube with many people admitting they had no idea he could play that well, and these people now have a greater respect for Prince's talents. His performance of Fury on Snl was widely praised (even by many non fans), as were the performances at Cochella and at the Superbowl (voted the greatest superbowl performance ever). Hardly sounds like a ruined carrear to me.

I have to say N.E.W.S. is an exceptional album! I really think in the past years it will get the praise it deserves! I think it is VERY brilliant and I listen to it quite frequently! ALL of the songs always take me somewhere, but 'North' by far is one of my favorite songs by Prince; it is amazing!

So my expectations were very high when I played 'Xpectation'. However, I was not amazed, I only like 3 songs on that album, the rest literally bored me to DEATH! However "Xcognite, Xogenous, and Xpand are awesome. I stuck through it all after the first listen, and after it finished I just could not stop shaking my head. LOL. So after giving it sometime I heard it again, but I could not handle it most of it again except those 3 tracks, so I fast forwarded a lot of it, it did not strike me in the ways I thought it was capable of.

I have yet to hear C-Note, but I am hoping it's as great as N.E.W.S. And the Rainbow Children is one Prince's most creative masterpieces! I love the jazz within this album and it really always speaks to me. I love when he does Jazz, you can see he does it well because of the early bringing up of his father. I think he is exceptional in the arrangement of jazz; where he places the horns, drums, and piano. I like that he adds that jazzy feel to most of his songs.

I want more material belonging to the family of N.E.W.S. & The Rainbow Children!

you keep making the mistake that just because YOU don't like his recent work, other fans don't. Plenty of us like albums like 3121 and Lotus3flower. This is very similar to the comment you made in another thread where you said that "most" Prince fans don't think The Gold Experience is a very good album even though Prince fans themselves voted it as one of his best works. You just assumed (without any research) that just because you didnt like it, most fans would feel the same. This, of course, is completely untrue since the majoirty of prince fans think highly of the album. So maybe its time to stop assuming that just because you have a dislike or hatred for his recent work, others feel the same way.
