I like Patti's version. However the Prince version I have isn't that clear.

The clearest sounding version is on a bootleg called 'Blue' by the now defunct Thunderball label.

It's a nice tune, but that little western style keyboard
line at the beginning always puts me off.

I can just see Prince waiting in that "New Dress" he sings
about, waiting for Clint Eastwood to come along on his
horse and take Prince out to the saloon for a few shots
of tequilla.

not a pretty sight.

Theatrical but somewhat hollow.

At the time I thought it was neat, becasue I thought he did a cover of patti LaBelle and was suprised to find he wrote it for her. Eventually, I realized that it doesn't ahve a lot of staying power.

TheJoker

"Out, of, the lonely blue...
You went away and left me,
Without, without one single word

And night 2 night,
Like a ghost from the past
Your voice, was all I heard..."

Just listen to the opening - the ambience. Prince's voice, it's seductiveness, it's hurt.

I really like this track - wish he officially released it himself.

The quality I have isn't great, but you can still enjoy it for sure.

STORMING guitar, by Prince, on Patti's version. He really tears the sh*t up!

Love both versions.

He gave it to Patti Labelle, but a Prince version circulates.

I think it's rather poor...

written with rosie gaines and frances jules for patti's "burnin" cd. her version in without a doubt the best. you can hear rosie singing in the background too.

Freaker

Its very cool and passionate. I am sure it was inspired by real events as it sounds close to the heart and that may explain why it wasnt released.
I think he says "in 1990" and not "Night 2 night"
