Dirty Mind

Controversy

1999

Purple Rain

Around the World in a Day,

Parade

Sign '0'the Times

Lovesexy

They all are cohesive and have an aim and focus

All of them work and get the message across

I would say the not so 'best' production might be Controversy & Sign o the Times

I think with Controversy some of the songs messages weren't as clear, even though I like the songs

Sign o the Times as a title track and album title led me to expect a certain direction that I don't think the album as a whole conveyed. Sign o the Times as a song works very well with the Dream Factory playlist. the SOTT album to me even back then felt like something was missing, yet I still love it overall

I would have 2 say Purple Rain Around the World in a Day and Parade as best production

from 1980 to 1988 Prince grew as a musician step by step. Dirty Mind was his first major breakthru and he mixed funk, new wave, and garage rock with ease. The Controversy album was the start of The Minneapolis Sound with him using the linn drum machine. It's as if prince knew where he wanted to go as an artist. The 1999 album was the ultimate in terms of his MPLS sound. Just think about how Prince changed from just 1980 to 1982 alone. The way he changed his sound, vibe and look so drastically was amazing. We all know what followed 2 years later. The rest of the 80's his sound became more organic and more solid music to come.

Of course some fans on here just to be different will say his 90's era forward was better. Those fans aren't being honest with themselves at all. Prince is in the rock and roll hall of fame due to his 1980 to 88 output alone.

Yeah, I dig that album a lot. I love it more after I added "She's Always In My Hair" after "Condition Of The Heart", and made "America(Extended Version) the intro track.

Yeah, I dig that album a lot. I love it more after I added "She's Always In My Hair" after "Condition Of The Heart", and made "America(Extended Version) the intro track.

I also love it. And, in my opinion, is more cohesive musically and lyrically than the majority of his other albums. That said, I can't believe he didn't include She's Always In My Hair.

My FAV album of all

the whole project was just perfect

the paintings the fonts lyrics credits

the history behind songs the production

the B sides & long versions

1999 Purple Rain ATWIAD & Parade all had perfect Bsides that enhanced the project

I always replace the the album cuts with their long versions and add the bside

Go is also an outtake so add that in there

I couldn't add "Go", the quality isn't that good. But the best thing to do to that album is make "America" the intro track. Pure genious. I'm still tryig to find some other ways to make it more classic.

1. America(Extended Version)

2. Around The World In A Day

3. Paisley Park(Extended Version)

4. Condition Of The Heart

5. She's Always In My Hair(Extended Version)

6. Raspberry Beret(Extended Version)

7. Pop Life(Extended Version)

8. The Ladder

9. Tamborine

10. Temptation

Tremolina

ATWIAD and Parade. Prince, Susan Rogers, Peggy Mac and the three David's. These records contain a lot of complex recorded arrangements of some of Prince's most creative and innovative songs. Music that is kinda out there sometimes and goes into all kinds of directions with lots of technological tricks, plus many layers of voices, sounds and instruments, orchestras etc. The recordings still sound extremely good tho'. Everything gets its rightful place, nothing is really mashed together and it all sounds very clear and bright. Great production.

Yeah I have "Hello" and "Girl" Extended also. I just keep them in The Hits/B-Sides.

With America we don't agree. To me, it's the worst track on the album, and it doesn't fit very well in it, neither musically nor lyrically.

I agree. That went wrong with Sign O' The Times, in my opinion. I mean, La La La He He Hee as B-side to Sign O' The Times? That's awful. I don't mean La La La is a bad song (though certainly it isn't brilliant), but that it isn't an adequate B-side to Sign.

Well I love that song a lot. The 21 Minute Version is insane. I don't see why people hate that song.

I think people are confused. "Best production" doesn't really mean "favorite record."

Rainbow Children has excellent production, but that doesn't mean it's a good record.

Prince's production values were a lot different in the 80s. I don't think the word 'best' is applicable because his production values have gotten much more sophisticated. He was definitely more experimental back then, but everything past Around the World In A Day has terrible production, IMO.

Great albums, but the mixing is not great.
