Brenda had singing skills, Vanity had the drive and was a good front-man, she definately had that connection with the other 2 ladies, that when you look at them with Apollonia there is nothing there.
I wish after Apollonia 6 he added Jill Jones and let the group mature. Vanity 6 mixed in with the Time & Prince was a nice dimension

First time I heard this was in a dive bar/pool hall my dad stopped by one Saturday afternoon(1983), there as a jUkeBox and I was scanning thru it and I saw this song I never heard of by Prince I got some change out and played it... I immediately went on a record store hunt to get this one...

I love this era! It had a dangerous and electric feel to it, as well as an amazing look. I love all of the songs and outtakes from this era. It is really hard to choose a favorite song from the album since they are all AMAZING. I also agree that Jill and Lisa were very hot in the videos (loved the Automatic vid).
I do have a question though: Does Electric Intercourse belong to the 1999 era since it was recorded at the '83 benefit gig at 1st ave? Even though it was for the Purple Rain album?

most of his album/era's extended into the next year. By the time the 1983 Benefit show, he was definately into Purple Rain. That show featured new songs for the Purple Rain album/film, the band was already in seclussion at the warehouse recording/writing music. And Electric Intercourse was intended 4 Purple Rain -later replaced by the Beautiful Ones. Electric Intercourse is written in the original film script 2 along with G-Spot

Initial tracking took place on 9 May, 1982 at Sunset Sound, Hollywood, CA, USA (seven days after Automatic).
The baby cooing sound effect used at the very end of "Delirious" is sampled from the 1966 Perrey and Kingsley song "Countdown at 6".

Every year of Prince's career has been wonderful to be a part of. Prince being a part of the atmosphere of the room is sentimental in a sense to look back on, especially this "1999," era.
I love every note and lyric from this record. "Something in the Water," is one of my personal favorite's. It's an uphill climb to the finish line.

Judging from the hair, Controversy but then again when was the bodyguard hired? '81, right? Or '82?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Hired during the Conroversery era. Yeah it does look like that era. I have some other pics of the band with Big Chick and they look Controversy -ish, Jill Jones is with them too
