I was dreamin' when I wrote this, forgive me if it goes astray
But it was Saturday night, I guess that makes it all right
Wheels get locked in place
Don't U wanna be my fantasy?
Wear lingerie 2 a restaurant
Baby, U're the purple star of the night supreme
Why do special women make me cry?
Never let that lonely monster take control of U

Drive it, baby, drive it, drive this demon out of me

Purple love-amour is all U're in it 4
I'll buy U diamonds and pearls

Warner Bros. Records, Minneapolis and sex. What do these three items have in common? by Ken Tucker

Let's Pretend We're Married

Released November 23, 1983
Recorded Sunset Sound March 30, 1982

Excuse me but I need a mouth like yours
2 help me forget the girl that just walked out my door
Funny but it seems that U're alone like me
If U are, girl let's come see what we can see
CHORUS:
Ooh, little darlin', if U're free 4 a couple o' hours (Free 4 a couple o' hours)
If U ain't busy 4 the next 7 years (Next 7 years)
I said let's pretend we're married and go all night
There ain't nothin' wrong if it feels alright
I won't stop until the mornin' light
Let's pretend we're married and go all night 2night
Ooh wee sha sha coo coo yeah
All the hippies sing 2gether

Excuse me but I need your chemistry
Don't U wanna be my fantasy?
My girl's gone and she don't care at all
And if she did, so what, come on baby, let's ball!

CHORUS

Let's just pretend we're married 2night

Excuse me but I need a mouth like yours
2 help me forget the girl that just walked out my door
Let's pretend we're married and do it all night
I won't stop until the mornin' light
Huh, let's pretend we're married and go all night, yeah

Ooh, little darlin', if U're free 4 a couple o' hours (Free 4 a couple o' hours)
If U ain't busy 4 the next 7 years (Next 7 years)
Oh darlin', let's pretend we're married and go all night
There ain't nothin' wrong if it feels alright
I won't stop until the mornin' light
Let's pretend we're married and go all night! (2night)
(Ooh wee sha sha coo coo yeah)
Pretend we're married

Let's pretend we're married

(Ooh wee sha sha coo coo yeah) {x4}
All the hippies sing 2gether
Oh everybody
All the hippies sing 2gether
Yeah, yeah

My girl's gone and she don't care at all
And if she did, so what, come on baby, let's ball

I wanna fuck U so bad it hurts, it hurts, it hurts
Ooh, I wanna, I wanna, I wanna, I wanna, I wanna, I wanna fuck U
Yeah, I wanna, I wanna, ooh, I wanna fuck U
Look here martian, I'm not sayin' this just 2 be nasty
I sincerely wanna fuck the taste outta your mouth
Can U relate?

My girl's gone and she don't care at all
And if she did, I wouldn't care, let's ball

Whatever U heard about me is true
I change the rules and do what I wanna do
I'm in love with God, He's the only way
Cuz U and I know we gotta die some day
If U think I'm crazy, U're probably right
But I'm gonna have fun every motherfuckin' night
If U like 2 fight, U're a double-drag fool
I'm goin' 2 another life, how 'bout U?

Let's Pretend We're Married" is a sexually-based song by Prince from his 1982 album 1999.[1] It was also the final US single from the album. The song consists mainly of keyboards and drum machines, along with Prince's vocals. Two verses followed by choruses form the main basis of the song. The song breaks down to an instrumental section followed by Prince stating he wants to "fuck the taste out of [the girl's] mouth." The final part of the song is an a cappella with Prince stating his philosophy on life - he loves God for fear of the afterlife but he's going to have fun while he can, a theme echoed in "1999". The song was performed live on the Purple Rain Tour.

It's a shame that the two ballads in 1999 aren't as brilliant as the rest of the record. Moonbeam Levels should have been there.

Yes. I can stand both, but, in my opinion, they aren't as good as the other songs. I think Moonbeam Leves and How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore are way better. And then there are the outtakes. Extralovable is quite good, but I prefer Purple Music... Brilliant!

LOVE Purple Music, that one definately should have been on this album

My favorite live version of Free was at his 1st Ave 6.7.1984 show,

Yeah, I've seen you've started the thread with a quote from it! What I don't like about Free is its epic tone, as if it was a Queen tune confused. That's reduced in the live version you mention, which I like a lot.

Whaaaa? I thought you would've been the first one to notice something like that, OF4S!! lol I thought it was kinda cool when C&D came out just to see the past being acknowledged, even with the little "WB" logo in the tear that's coming out of his eye (also, I'm pretty sure this is the "eye" he's referring to in the song "Holy River":

And when I see that picture upon the wall
The one eye staring at nothing at all
My eyes trying 2 focus but these are much different tears
Oh, yes they are
Let's go down 2 the holy river

It was also ironic because the 1999 album 1,000 times shittin' on C&D, so the image being portrayed on the cover should've actually been reversed! razz

the original 1981 version of Feel U Up definately has that 1999 era sound.

I wonder why he didn't include this one. Possibly because he had so many choices

Still glad he reworked Irresistable Bitch with Wendy & Lisa

Feel U Up
This outtake was recorded toward the end of 1981 and was taped in sequence with "Irresistible Bitch". Both songs were later re-recorded. The lyrics are very similar to to the released song although the vocals seem to have been recorded at a low level. "Feel U Up" was re-recorded in 1986 for the shelved Camille album and finally released in 1989 as the B-side to "Partyman".

Feel U Up

I been diggin' U 4 such a long time
But U don't even know that I'm alive
Something 'bout the way U walk just really blows my mind
I'm sorry but I'm sick of all this jive, come on

CHORUS:
Let me touch your body, baby
Let me feel U up
C'mon girl, (Feel U up) let me feel U up (Huh!)
Let me touch your body, baby
Let me feel U up
C'mon girl, (Feel U up) let me feel U up (Huh!)

Tell me what 2 do, U really got me hot
I'm sweatin' girl and it's all because of U
I don't want your credit cards or anything U got
Feel U up is all I wanna do

CHORUS

I ain't looking 4 a one night stand
I only wanna feel U up
I don't really wanna be your man
I only wanna feel U up
Physical attraction, babe
Is what it's all about
Hot and cold reaction
Feel U up - turn U out!

CHORUS

Uh, what's the verdict? I don't like suspense
How can U resist my burning touch?
Somethin' 'bout your body, baby really turns me on
I never wanted anything so much

CHORUS {x2}

I ain't looking 4 a one night stand
I only wanna feel U up
I don't really wanna be your man
I only wanna feel U up
Physical attraction, babe
Is what it's all about
Hot and cold reaction
Feel U up - turn U out!

[U're welcome] {x2}
C'mon baby, c'mon, let me feel U up, huh!
[U're welcome] {repeated}

(Feel U up) {repeated in BG}

I got a cheap little toy that will make your body move
I got the jam, baby, if U got the groove, turn it up!

Come on, now!
Feel U up

[Come here, sit your ass...hey!]
Listen 2 me turn it up, huh!
Everybody say it now!
Oh {repeated}

Feel U up! {x2}
Let me feel U up
Feel U up! {x2}
Listen 2 my boy feel U up

Good Lordy Lord! {x2}
Come on and turn it up

CHORUS

I ain't looking 4 a one night stand
I only wanna feel U up
I don't really wanna be your man
I only wanna feel U up, uh!

Good Lordy Lord!
(Feel U up) {x2}
I only wanna feel U up, uh!

{segue into "Irresistible Bitch"}

Controversy's sell-out cousin. I love this record sooo much. Love the colors and the vibe.

I do see this album as a continuation of what began on Controversy from the look to the sound, but its execution is just way more grand.
