I saw two shows by my favorite band that put Prince's 2009 concert to shame and barely trumped his 07/07/07 show. Sorry.

Prince is amazing when he's in the zone, but I've seen a few bad shows by him. When he's not in the mood, it really shows.

who is your favorite band?

o.k., i just read that Kanye West is on stage with P right now. You know as soon as you see the clips on Youtube that KW is just gonna look pathetic, out of tune and out of breath!.

The thing with Madonna, like may other 'big stars' is that you get essentially a 'big predictable show'. So regardless if it's her, GAGA, Take That, U2 etc it really doesn't matter when or where you see them the show will still be more or less the same. Cetain P tours have also been very predictable i.e. Purple Rain, Lovesexy etc but this time round you just don't know what to expect.

Whatever your thoughts about his song choices are i.e. plays nothing much new etc when you add up all the parts of his 'live game' then P is without any shadow of doubt a monster performer live. Simples!

I think that is with most artists. Especially perfectionists.

Especially when your working a big arena and/or promoting an album.

And yes a lot of Prince's shows have been just that, because he is a perfectionist and a control f....

But I've seen impromtu sets by both Madonna & Prince that were not predictable

Madonna has and still does club appearances. Has the dj play a new song/lp, small promo sets very different from the concert.

With her last tour she did a lot of different things

My favorite was her Michael Jackson tribute. I swear that one made me miss him so much

Most of Prince's 'concerts' are predictable with a change here and there sometimes. And that's ok.

And then he will have a small club experience that is non predictable or at least on our end it looks very impromptu

Would rather not say because this forum will probably tear me apart for it but...

Weezer.

They played their first two albums in the span of two nights as well as a ton of rarities and a song that had never been played live before.\

07/07/07 is very close behind. That was a freaking BRILLIANT show. Was a greatest hits show for the most part but he got every bit of awesom he could out of each song.

lol I had to ask because you mysteriously did not say who they were.

I haven't seen Weezer but they are definitely interesting and inteligent. I would not be surprised if they did a good show.

But the Prince show I saw in Feb could just have been the best show I've ever seen. Hard to say because it's fresher in my mind, but I was shocked at how good it was and it was my tenth Prince show

I tell ya, if I was at one of his rock trio shows I may have ranked that higher than the Weezer show. Who knows?

The comaprison is ridiculous imho ;

She can't sing to safe her life , she doesn't play any instruments , doesn't write her own songs

(or hardly)

etc etc

She doesn't compete in the least , she's a talentless marketable product

Prince is genius

Again, I'm not comparing her with Prince.

But if she was as horrible as you say, she still wouldn't be relevant in 2011 and she has remained relevant as an entertainer

She knows how to play drums and before she became "Madonna" played drums in a rock band. And she plays guitar and does pretty good. You're on a tanget, most of her songs she does write (co/write)

Get your head out of Prince's ass

Again if she had nothing she wouldn't be where she is

Prince is a genius in his own right

but uhhh so is Madonna...his peer

[Edited 8/11/11 19:33pm]

sorry but

falloff is all i can say to that

Oh yes you are the one that started comparing them , not i

You said they are both equally as good a live act

I don't have my head up p's ass in the least but this comparison is just freaking hilarious

and it bothers me , so i need to speak my mind about it

On a musical level , you just can't be serious

And if you are you need to study music

Prince stands alone as a solo performer at live shows...No one comes close if you take into account all the aspects of a live performance and how well princes does them

But the blueprint was set by james brown..Prince knows this and is more like jb in his shows now than ever before...But he will eclipse him in terms of longeivity and high standards..that is how good prince is as a live performer...

In my opinion, Prince has been the world's greatest live act since post Purple Rain 1985 (except for when Larry Graham was his bassist)

he really is brilliant....

there was a thread asking if janet was a 'legend'... and it seemed like people were saying 'no because while she was big from 86-98, she fell off since then"

well, the same could be said for prince too.. (yes, he is different in that he is a virtuoso, innovator, influential, pioneer etc)..

but if you just look at the charts, its sort of the same, except prince was pretty much gone after 92..

its his live act that makes him a legend, i think...

it is what has kept him relevant enough to sell so many tickets after nearly 20 years of not having a 'hit'.

He has had hits since 1992. Not many, but still there's some:

Peach (1993)

The Most Beautiful Girl In The World (1994)
Letitgo (1994)

I Hate U (1995)
Gold (1995)
Betcha By Golly Wow (1996)

Musicology (2004)

that's not comparing them as in sizing them up.

I clearly said they are and there are different kinds of entertainers

Just like MJ I see no comparison between MJ & Prince just 2 different kinds

But again you said things like Madonna doesn't play instruments and some other things

Which tells me you just talking out of the side of your mouth

Anyone with that kind of longevity is very good at what they do

the topic is Prince is peerless as a live act, no one can compete and most of us here have disagreed.

Speak your mind just talk about what you know

Your just running your mouth I've clearly spelled out what things I'm talking about

I never said she is as good as he is MUSICALLY, so why even go there

You said You stated Madonna doesn't even play an instrument.

She's been playing guitar since the early 2000's

The only instrument she's strums well is her pelvic.

Not knocking-just saying. wink

I'd have to say that TORI AMOS is the live act I wish Prince was. An instrumental virtuoso with a voice to match, her setlists are utterly unpredictable and her cover versions sublime, nowt like the original, and not repeated ad nauseum to the detriment of her own work.

She's also still a major force in the studio (despite a mild mid-career dip), which Prince sadly isn't.

For all you saying that Prince doesn't care about the hardcore with the same 'hits' day in and out and an array of bloated covers that are already feeling as tired and obvious as Purple Rain, with Amos it's just the opposite.

Thank you for making clear that Madonna does play instruments and that she does write/co-write her own songs.

Of course they are totally different artists, but they are both amazing live, IMO.

But I love them both for different reasons.
