The album/music is very very cool, some moments of the film are cool, Prince looked way cool in the film, but overall.. the movie wasn't what I'd been anticipating when I went to see it (there were about 4 other people in the theater back when when I saw it after it first opened, and a couple of them walked out of it)

I've always wondered if it would have been a more watchable movie if Albert Magnoli was involved. He might not have had a better performance from the actors, but script-wise and through editing he might have made a better movie. As a movie, I personally like UTCM better. | |

To me, this was probably the biggest crime in this movie. You don't take a song like Joy in Rep, a WONDERFUL song like Joy in Rep & put some whack visuals on top of it. For a guy so capable of abstract thought, his interpretation of this song was SO damn literal! The rain fell when the song said so, she was on the mic when the song said so, they left the club when the song said so - where's the imagination in that?  Missed opportunity to do something great, sensual, visually stunning. Instead we get Ingrid w/ fucking Ray Bands on, mouthing "love me" & them play-grinding against a fake ass wall...
