Friend, Lover, Sister, Mother/Wife appreciation

I know a lot of people aren't into the Emancipation album but this is one pf Prince's all-time best ballads...just below ones like Adore and Do Me Baby. It's just really profound how he realzes that a woman can mean so many different things to a man. Also the music and vocals are excellent. Can u relate 2 my love 4 this song?

I think it's unbearable.

And neither Do me baby nor Adore are for me amongst his best ballads.

^Contrary to virtually everybody on the planet, Slow Love must be my favourite Prince ballad.

When 2 R In Love comes close. I don't care about lyrics, harmonically it is great.

The much praised Adore is just the average-run-of-the-mill soul ballad for me and the overrated Do Me Baby is a 3 chord twist that anybody and their aunties could've written. Not Princeworthy at all.

But that's MY opinion which, contrary to many here, I don't need anybody to share.

LOVE this song! Sometimes I just put it on repeat in my car and listen over and over- love it!

And I'll never understand people not liking Emancipation or thinking it's too much music- so what if it's "too much" I appreciate all the songs! Fantastic album! Fantastic!!!!

yes I love you recognized this song!!! Emancipation is one of my favorite Prince CDs. Disc 2 is romantic, ethereal, lovely, seductive, beautiful, hot and a great mood setter nod as well as a great commentary on the joys of love. I pray I was my husband's Friend, Lover, Sister, Mother/Wife. I truly love that song for what it means to me and how Prince felt about Mayte when he wrote it and released it. heart.. did I say I love it? One of my Top Twenty Prince songs since For You sun

Personal opinion regarding this...

Do Me Baby is maybe "basic" in it's pure form, but the performance and production is not basic at all. I would be very proud of my aunt or a random somebody if they could make something close to that. Not saying I'm not proud of my aunt. She's an amazing hair dresser, and is good at making tasty birthday cakes and such. But seriously? You have a weird sense of humor lol

Adore is a great song imo, but I must admit that it's not often I listen to it. I sometimes think some of the production on Sign of The Time didn't age well. I prefer Electric Intercourse the live version even though it's a more forgettable song objectivly seen. The passionate scream and wonderfull piano however keeps me addicted.

I'm glad I was growing up hearing music instead of reading it. I know too many music "intellectuals" and nerds who only like the music if it looks good on a note sheet. If it looks difficult enough to play, or looks original technically and theoretically, it's in those minds good music. I've never understood that. Often Prince way of making things original is stripping down the music so far it would be an awful crime towards music if it wasn't for his unique way of making it work.

You got that right! Classics.

In regards to The aforementioned song it is a very touching song but never one of my favorites off Emancipation. However, I revisited it again a few years back and it is an incredible song with alot of pure emotion. I still love Somebody, Somebody and Holy River.
The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

Not a fan of Do Me Baby.

When 2 R In Love used to do something for me, now it really doesn't. It just feels flat.

Slow Love and Adore are two of my all-time favorite Prince tracks, ballad or otherwise.

It's of course a good thing that atleast some of the members are critical towards Prince. Only problem I have with some smart asses on this page is that they're just as quasi intellectual as they say Prince is. A Prince fan is often either sucking his dick no matter what, or they are more critical towards him than any fan of any other artist I know of. It's like they want to upsmart everyone else by explaining how bad his music actually is, but that they every now and then enjoy him for the value of a strip tease.

People don't really have to be on either side.
