Paisley Park: the song... I was amazed when I first heard this song the day ATWIAD hit the shelves. A purple funk soldier like myself was not enamored with the direction P took with his first post-PR album, but I found Paisley Park to be an unbelievable track. So catchy, trippy and rocking with the understated guitar. That ethereal chorus. And fonkay, too.
I would have killed for a jacked-up 1999/PR type of release with his followup to PR, but at least we were given the surreal Paisley Park.

Have you ever played this song on surround sound, while you were high? Go do it.

Sounds like the kind of song that Michael Jackson would have given to Prince.
Not my favourite. | |

I liked it but I think it would be great listening to it while on shrooms or something.

Great song but the worst video in music history......Eye could go down my local park do a better video than that............ Dave Is Nuttier Than A Can Of Planters Peanuts...(Ottensen)

Bit overrated, not keen on repetitive beat but like the idealism of it.

Its definitely a cool setup for the album. Its almost like ATWIAD (the song) is a prologue, and Paisley Park really puts you in the mindset. Its so chill and relaxing, without being boring at all. Gotta love Prince!

No need to, just appreciate the song.

Me too ! One of my favorite songs. Heartfelt, poignant, classic P. Amazing album. "Great dancers are not great because of their technique, they are great because of their passion" -- Martha Graham

This song to me represents Prince really well. What happened to that hippy, dippy folk influenced Prince ? I prefer it a million times over a lot of the stuff since. I'm not so into the funk prefer the folk. Shut up already, damn.

Just listen to it on your own in the dark. It's amazing.. So is Condition of the heart. Fantastic in my opinion. Shut up already, damn.

I always felt this would have been a hit in North America, if he'd released it as a single here.
But such opinions are nothing new.

Great song. Very colorful. That is what I love about ATWIAD. The lyrics are so full of color and whimsy and the music has a pop-psychedelic feel that really makes it interesting.

First single of the Around the World...in Britain. Perhaps not ,,mainstream" enough to become a major hit but what a great song! And I had forgotten about the 12 inch version. I must have listened to that a million times. I gotta dig it up and listen to it again...again..again..again...

I think he released this in the UK because they'd respond to a song like that. Looking at the U.S. hits of 1985, I don't know how that would've worked especially since Prince and WB never saw eye to eye on single releases.

What you mean because it sounds a bit beatlesy? It does actually, it reminds me of Penny Lane a bit.

It was actually mentioned many times in the media at the time that Around the World in a Day was Prince's "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band"
Raspberry beret does not have this hippie psychadelic flavour as Paisley Park and most of the album, therefore was more mainstream and for that reason it was probably the first single in the US. I don't think that Paisley Park was considered radio friendly in enough in the US.

Great song, another that he should reintroduce into the live setlists.
