I am a lil o.O at how some seem to take it personally that he may have had a micro. Yeah goo care can help growing natural hair. But it can also get high quality weave.

Ipad clarity is an illusion. Kind of like listening to music on base enhancing headphones.

The colors and mix aren't as natural as the original.

I will say, there are some scenes where it looks wig like, or like they primped his hair to a wig like state.... but they weren't extensions. Prince's hair was that long, and that full of curls. Nobody was using extensions the way they do today, for volume and a couple more inches.

Watching Purple Rain on an Ipad makes it painfully obvious that this amazing look was with the help of extensions.I know this has been debated forever but the clarity of the video on the Ipad makes Princes hair look without question artificial. If anyone has some inside info that could prove otherwise I'd love to hear it. In any case it's actually very disappointing. I thought for years it was real.

Hmm. How common were hair extentions in 1984? I mean, were celebrities routinely sporting weaves then?

absolutely. Not long after that Janet did the Control album... and most of her hair was weave. Diana Ross was wearing weave by this time.

I don't believe Prince had weave during this time. But I haven't seen the video with the clarity of a apple machine.

But look at how big his afro was on the For You album. And how long his hair was on the cover of Prince album.

I have been told it was not a jheri curl but instead it was either hot curling iron or a wet set.

Prince had more hair during the For U Prince years.

Nothing for him to grow it back during the 1999-Prince years cut it off

then near the end of the Parade tour we see it growing back again then the OTT length

and long again during the Lovesexy years like his Prince years

I don't care whether it was real, a wig a weave, or if they cut the hair straight of a horse's ass and put it on his head.

I know one thing, Prince looked fine and I was like eek when I saw Purple Rain the first time I was 12.

Now if you wanna have a debate about real or fake, pop in PR and contemplate Apollonia's "apples" for a while.

Naw that's her hair, a great hairdresser will help handle and treat your hair, healthy hair grows and doesn't break off

I remember an episode last year where another black woman assumed it was weave and Oprah said no it's her hair and let the woman come up and run her hands thru it from scalp to hair edges... it's real

Purple Rain and before: I say good press and curl, pre-relaxer days (for most folks) and absolutely NO weave or wig! Nowadays I'm sure we're talking relaxer and some close friends argue me down that he has weave in the top because he's going the way of John L. I refuse to believe......smile

I never said that, most photos now a days are retouched.

I don't know what that means in connection to what I saw happen on the Oprah show.

the woman ran her hands through Oprahs hair, there were no tracks glue or weave.

If you would rather believe that people (Black women with kinky hair) can't grow hair over facts go right ahead.

LOL because the person(s) who have issues are jealous or can't grow hair themselves.

That tends to be the issues, as well as internal racism

It's funny how I watch Purple Rain over and over and I am watching the movie the action to plot the story line the music scenes. Other people are looking for anything to find fault with, put down or degrade the movie like it wasn't that good anyway

Why would a movie done in 1983 would look better on an iPad than on a normal TV back then, or even today? "Low" quality remains low quality, even with good speakers/screen/etc.

Purple Rain was a professional movie shot on 35mm film, and you can get it in HD on blu-ray now. All movies filmed on 35mm since the silent era are higher resolution than modern HD. That's why an old movie like 1933 King Kong comes out on blu-ray. It's the same or higher quality than modern consumer grade HD.

Regular tv's had inferior picture quality back in the 50's through the 90's compared to what you get now. The Ipad has a better way of showing the DVD or HD movie visually. Actually all the computers do, PC's too!

The ipad can also be super BRIGHT. Brighter than the filmmakers intended their movie to be watched.

Wow, thanks for that info. I always thought it was her hair... then someone said it was weave in later years (like 2000s.) and she was doing so many crazy things with her hair, it appeared to even changed texture. So I thought it WAS weave. Now I know.

I am not sure about PR but GB he had major extensions. They even had a credit in the movie.

PR could well have been, but the iPad thing is silly.

Spot on!

But the OP's suggestion that the iPad is some sort of reference monitor that reveals details other screens are incapable of displaying is laughable! Its only 1024 x 768, which isn't even full HD. Any large plasma (still the best HD viewing format) screen in full 1080p will piss all over an iPad.
