i like what he doing for these artist

well the way yall on here bitching and moaning for the family i think they should take the ride with prince the family released one prince produced cd didnt write not one song or play anything on it themselves and people giving them more credit than prince so umm maybe 30 years from now andy will be giving the same treatment u giving the family

Hahaha...I never thought of this possibility? LOL. I am sure he does in a way. Prince does not realize he is 53 because time does not exist. Haha. Which explains why he still looks the same over the years..Haha. But he might like that image? LOL. He seems to "COOl" for that though..lol

yeah, when you consider all the raw talent out here which will never be heard, people who can pull those things off are a travesty..It's the nature of the business and the nature of men who'll go for style over substance anyday. Out of all the women he's worked with, most of them remind of the kind of women who sing at home, or in the car and think they have lots of talent. Vanity, Appolonia, Carmen Electra, hell I can't even recite all their names but you know who they are. He's also worked with real talent but most times hasn't had romantic interest with a Rosie Gaines, a Boni Boyer, etc.., etc.., I've heard ingrid Chavez had a real strong album and Prince was quoted as saying he wouldn't release it because he was afraid it woud change the course of music and thus upstage him. Don't know how true that is, I listened to a few of Ingrids songs, they don't do much for me, but then I haven't really listened. It's sad that he never supported Rosie Gaines in her solo efforts, I've always loved her style. W&L were ok as creative partners (if all the stories are true) but even they weren't anything to write home about as far as musicianship. Sheila of course stands on her own with or without Prince and so does Rhonda. I am of the belief that people don't change and Prince has been using the "I can make you a star" line since Vanity and I'm sure that's what he's still doing. I didn't think the Valente cd was terrible but it was terribly unremarkable for Prince to be producing. Hell, as bad as Vanity was, those songs were fucking great.

jokes aside, he reminds me of my father.

he spent the last 40 years trying to hijack my life with all his 'advice'. i put a stop to it when i woke up and realised his motivations for doing so weren't as genuine as they seemed.

he was using me to make himself feel important. it's a very oppressive thing when someone does that. i live my life the way i want to. adults shouldnt need a father figure.

its not fair to cripple someone's ability to make their own decisions and learn for themselves by hijacking their 'career' purely for your own benefit.

all the promises of 'making someone a star' are not about doing someone a favor, they're about how big the father will feel if it works, whether its the right thing for you or not.

i dont speak to my father anymore. i wasnt born to accomodate his ego.

I relate, I was close to my real father, he died when I was 9, left me open to looking for father figures. I used to really believe my mentor was selfless, when I learned that my own father figure/guru/martial arts teacher/employer only really cared about money and power, I'm ashamed to say it almost drove me crazy. I was so enmeshed with him and did so much work and got too involved with his family and when I tired of being a perfect employee/son/etc.., it made them hate me. I'm still not the same 10 years later but I'm glad not to be involved with the whole situation anymore. At least you caught on and I believe you are right, just as most mentors are there for those reasons and most students are better off fending for themselves. It's sad as hell that you don't talk to him, I can't judge any of that, my teacher could have at least maintained a friendly relationship but the ego doesn't allow that, things got bad. In many ways, I think it ruined me. But we have to carry on the best we can.

thank you for sharing that. i can relate to your story too.

whenever i questioned my father, or suggested something different, or said no, his 'genuine help' would turn into 'bitter condemnation'. he'd completely turn on me and tell me i was an idiot.

when i got older and learned a bit more about the way some people work, and he kept treating me that way, thats when i saw through it.

he just wanted me to accept his ideas, but he didnt realise that by continually telling me i should do this or i should do that, he was inadvertently showing disapproval of where i was at.

its all folly. "you will be 'better' when you listen to ME and do as i say". hmm. nope. i dont buy it anymore.

i love him but i cant carry him the way he needs me to and i wont allow anyone to belittle me anymore, just because i have my own mind. thats not a good enough reason to belittle anyone.

i'm sorry you've had a similar experience, you say it may have ruined you, i'm sorry to hear that. its hard sometimes i know but ur right to say we have to carry on best we can.

i felt really liberated when i finally stood up to my father. i became free that day, and its a good feeling to know i'll never let anyone do that to me ever again.
