Prince worth 173M USD

There is a Dutch article in a Belgian publication which indicates that Prince is worth about 173 million USD.

Funny thing - if you look at the bottom of the article, Prince.org is quoted as a source!

He sings "You do not have to be rich 'and for many it is a priceless idol, but we were wondering ... how many actually deserve Prince?

At nineteen Prince Roger Nelson signed his first recording contract with Warner Brothers. He draws away for three albums in the amount of $ 180,000, converted approximately 124,100 euros.

Boycotted

After his "Stevie Wonder' image of the early years has pushed to the side, getting his Purple Highness, a whole bunch of fans. With "Dirty Mind" in 1980, Prince opts for a funk / new wave album. A choice that also has a downside. While in America boycotted because his songs are sexually explicit, conquering the pop icon like this in the world. His new career turn is a leap to international success.

Ten platinum albums

Prince as an artist trying to do as much as possible. So he pays for his own recording studio and he usually does the writing, producing and playing most instruments himself.

A formula that works because Prince has now produced ten platinum albums and achieved no less than thirty tracks the top 40. And it would be even better. After all, if one hundred unreleased songs he would share with the public.

21 sold out shows

Next regularly in the top 40 to have stood, His Royal Badness has already often in prices divided: seven Grammy Awards, a Golden Globe and an Academy Award. Also a recognition as one of the best artists of all time in the magazine "Rolling Stone" has proven that "the artist formerly known as" an important man in music.

His income accordingly. In 2007, one of his peak years, Prince played less than 21 sold-out concerts at the O ² Arena in London. A tour that yielded him 15 million euros.

Its value? Hold on tight, because Prince was 173 million euros worth!

Where did you get that idea?

You would have to play stadiums instead of arenas, with $100 tickets, and the entire audience would have to buy a tshirt just for that show to break even.... and that's just to pay Prince his fee.

Normally the only time Prince or any other A list celebrity (including Beyonce, mariah, Gaga) is getting 2 million a gig is if it's for a private corporate show, or a royal heir asks him to play a private party. There are rare exceptions, but it's pretty unlikely unless Live Nation has him under a 360 deal.

Yeah, well. "Worth" is a funny thing. I doubt that it's a question of how many dollars Prine personally have in his pocket.

Such a huge worth would probably be an estimate of his entire estate, or his bankable assets. As in if you wanted to buy and own:

*His image (what'll it cost you to by his face for an add?),

*ALL of his albums (imagine what you could maybe earn if you controlled Prince's holdings in his own releases),

*ALL of his *perhaps* sellable unreleased song (here you can really guess what profits that are waiting to be had)

*ALL of his material written for other

*Plus real estate.

These are just guesses, and I'm probably overlooking quite a few things. But 173 m seems right to me. Bowie is at (if I remember correctly, and I probably don't) 300 m.

I agree on most of your points. Its a combination of all that he owns and earning power.

Didn't Bowie sold his music rights for 55 million. I'm sure he invested that money allowing it to grow. I think Prince's monetary amount is including his music rights which have the potential to make a lot of money.

Publishing is a strange thing to value. It's like talking about funny money. We know people like MJ had taken out lines of credit for crazy amounts based on their publishing, but it's like pricing a Warhol, it's really just a fantasy number.

There are a lot of broke people with endless debt who look like millionaires on paper.

I can honestly report that after a late show at Paisley Park during the "Xenophobia" celebration... our tired party wondered into a nearby suburban 24 hour grocery store past 2am to look for some food and motel supplies... and we see Maceo Parker (who was part of the band that year) looking tired and alone, inspecting the day old cheap sandwiches for sustainance.

eek

Or pass the peas ?!

Couldn't resist. Sorry. shrug

My guess is that Prince pays them pretty well or else they'd be making a lot more money playing with other artists. Especially with a resume that has his name on it.

By the way, I'd love to see a copy of Maceo's resume: James Brown, George Clinton, and Prince.

Gene Simmons estimated worth: 300 million. Yeah, if doing commercials got me that much I'd do it, too! lol.

Just to give a little perspective here. I was there in that market at 2 am also, and that's not quite what I saw. Maceo and the other horn players, at lease three or four people from the band were not looking tired and lonely, the just were in their buying some snacks because it was the only place open. I'm sure none of them live there and they were up til two in the morning playing and sweating. Just because they go to a market to buy some food doesn't mean they are poor.

I should have taken a few photos because he was by himself when we saw him at the sandwiches and talked to him. PS... I was kind of joking at the implication of abuse, I'm sure Prince treats him fine, but at the same time, you'd think they would an aftershow meal table set up somewhere elite in Paisley Park... like they do at Prince's concerts on on the road.
