Love 2 the 9's

Nearly 20 years later I finally 'get' this song so thought Id share my new found love for it. The harmonies , the feel and the quality has made this one of the standouts on the album.

Where is Carmen in this song?

isn't she the female vocal in the rap? the whole 'make the booty boom' duet thing.

Yeah the rap is not THAT bad..but it is irritating on replay ...I'd rather just hear the harmonizing, the vocals and the awesome climax

The edit that Earnest did was excellent and is much better for it. The Prince rap is ok but the other 2 barf .

Baby, take a really good look at my face, cause honey, it just might be the last time! Maybe, you should have played an ace..instead you played a queen, U better of cheating, than trying 2 read my mind! Don't use that; Magical, mysterious, intoxicating, joy fantastic, fascinating, word called love, unless you me 2 the 9's..This is the only kind of love that I've been dreaming of the kind of love that takes over your body, mind, and soul! Love 2 9's BABY!

The harmony is excellent, and the chorus is sheer perfection! I even like Prince's rap within the section...It flows and everything else! The booty boom has come to be hilarious...Haha. I don't know it's just one of the songs I listen to all the time, and I never can go wrong. I have it as my alarm! smile IT'S THAT SERIOUS! Haha I have major respect for it, and that means a lot to me considering I don't normally like his raps...But the lyrics are clever! smile It's one of my favorites as you see!

It's Button Therapy, Baby!

I absolutely LOVE this song and it's aged very well....Are we sure that it's Carmen doing the talking? I always thought it was Mayte, lol. I'm no professional musician or anything but it's superb when it comes to actual composition and considering it was an album cut, WOW! I seriously hate auto-tune and overproduced "music" that's out these days but hopefully songs like Love 2 the 9's will be "discovered" by a younger artist one day and start a revolution in music again---please bring the instruments back! smile

Ohhhhhhh! Love 2 the 9s was an instant classic in my books, with its smooth verse and continuous lyrical chorus this was the perfect antidote to the whole grunge formula of pensive verse and explosive chewed out chorus. Upon hearing it I knew I would be hitting my drums as soon as the album finished and drumming along with this track. There is a sweetness in this song that is contagious, and the witty questionnaire replies always make me smile. And how cool is the line “would you hug me on a crowded street”!!! It should have been a single.

There is no doubt in my mind that this is one of his best from the 90s. I played this so many times when it was released and in my mind this is one, very rare, occasion where the rap doesn't seem to detract. I actually really enjoyed the rap and, you know what, I still do.

CLASSIC

Love it since first listen. Probably my second fav song off prince (Sexy MF is the one)

the rap part is actually good. As I've said many times, Tony M nails it throughout the whole album...
