gett off/horny pony cassette single. These two songs really made me like Prince. Before this he was always ok but these two really drew me in and I got all of his music. I still prefer the 90s stuff over anything else but the 80s would be my second favorite era. bog dropoff though to me

Although definitely not my favorite of most Princey songs, but Let's Pretend We're Married is cuz it Prince taught me to have fun in life instead of bein the cautious shy little girl that I was. This was when I first got into him.

On the maturer side of the spectrum, I'd say Purple Rain cuz it's deep and made me respect Prince as a serious musician with a definite purpose, therefore opening the world of his music to me. Again, occurring at the time when I first got into Prince thru Purple Rain.

"controversy"

loved the:

rhythm

vocals

lyrics

new style of music (imo)

the sexiness of a beautiful man

unique sound

dancible quality of this track

a guitar style to die/live for

"People call me rude

I wish we all were nude

I wish there was no black and white

I wish there were no rules...

That song was creative fodder for new sounds in musical styles on this/our eye globe nod

The "Parade" album for me. In my teen years, my mother & I were homeless. I went into K-Mart one day, & I stole the cassette of that album [only because I had no $]. I was a fan of Prince at the time, so It was a good idea to snatch it [I was also curious because at that time, "Kiss" was the only song I'd heard of off that album]. The only thing I had for entertainment was a cheap-ass Walkman giving to me by one of my cousins who upgraded to a shiny sparkly portable CD player. I always loved music too. When I popped that cassette tape in, I. Was. Blown. AWAY! It kept me out of trouble for a good year [along with all of my other Prince tapes/CD's I eventually bought] until we finally got a place to stay. It will always hold a special place in my fuckin' heart. heart

I really enjoyed this story! It's very inspiring and shows the power of music and how he can make trouble bearable at most. smile I am GLAD it kept you out of trouble too! Wonderful story!

Thanks man! biggrin I used to be ashamed that I was homeless, but now I'm happy I went through that experience. It made me a much stronger person, & somewhat fearless. Music can save us too, I'm prime example of that.

When Doves cry: Reminds me of my parents' " when I was younger.. reminds me of "my sexuality", the feeling is a mixture of pros and cons, willing to say "no" or the lust it creates in my psyche..

Do me Baby; whenever I make Love

When 2 R in Love: when am in Love

Adore: I just Adore this song, I wake up with it, at least once a week I listen to the whole of it and the "heavenly angels' scream

"Face down" I used to like it for it, now, nomore, reminds me at the airport (bad experience): I don't listen to it anymore, hurts me

"Shhh" Just the sensuality of the song, penetrates my pores

Muse to the pharaoh: because sometimes the devil comes dressed in white, whereas it's a dark soul in front of onself

The everlasting now:This following sentence follows me: "don't let nobody bring U down" and I add to that neither you don't bring yourself down..

Anna Stesia: Because am often alone and the lack of a Soulmate, a twin, the other half of me,

I know what you mean. (side bar) > When I hear "Pretty Woman" by Roy Orbison I imagine it was written for me.

But hey, "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World" deserves to be connected to a woman's imagination of herself.

Like Queen Latifah said in one of her interviews, "I am number one most beautiful to myself." nod

Ain't no harm feeling you are beautiful, if you didn't I think you'd be doing God in heaven a dis-service in his creating "you."

When I saw the title of this thread I immediately thought of Beautiful, Loved & Blessed. It got me through probably the worst period of my life up to this point. Was fighting depression, loneliness, quarter-life crisis/angst about the future. To boot, was still recovering emotionally from taking care of a sick parent (who more or less abandoned me but then got sick and needed me but then who abandoned me again once a love interest came into their life, coincidentally around the time that their insurance money rolled in...). So, I was dealing with the absolute horror of that.

On top of that, not having much of a dating life at the time was also taking it's toll. At the time I thought, heck I'm in my mid-20s and my dating life sucks! It was like a double whammy of feeling rejected by someone who was supposed to love me unconditionally who clearly doesn't/didn't and also feeling hopeless about the future....that line about a "constant battle" in that song was really what stood out to me because it seemed like (and indeed) every area of my life at the time was falling apart...

Thank you Prince, you get a lot of negative comments here in the Org but THANK YOU (and Tamar) for writing that song, it just got me throught the worst era....with tears in my eyes, Thanks Skipper!

Trolls be gone!

Free.... Dont sleep 'til sunrise, listen to the falling rain Dont worry about tomorrow, dont worry about your pain Dont cry unless your happy, dont smile unless your blue Never let that lonely monster take control of you... why... well, the lyrics spoke of my sadness to some degree..

"Gold" has been meaningful in my life as an admirer of Prince's work.
Seeing him perform it at the end of the "Love 4 one another" special really put things in perspective for me.

The last two he performed in the movie Purple Rain caught my attention... I'd heard them a couple of times before but seeing them performed and acted out to the last lyric, I'd never seen anything quite like it before. It didn't make me pick up any albums right away and it'd be years until I got around to it, but I knew since that day that Prince was a musician to be taken very seriously. His music being as close to an artform as music is meant to be.

But "Gold" was a different experience entirely. He grabbed my attention and I was mesmerized start to finish the same way. But I felt something much deeper going on inside that made my heart and soul sing at the same time, in the same octave. Something that'd never happened to me before listening to any song.
Then one time I listened to it after a day where I went overboard with his music, listened to 3121 the first time, saw Purple Rain maybe the 4th time that week I had it on loan from Blockbuster.
Can't remember if I listened to that song in particular or the entire "Gold experience"... but I had an epiphany that helped me keep it together. I was literally crumbling under the pressure of trying to do so much at once and trying to take it all in stride. I discovered that I had to go through his music my own way and in the end its my decision what I like/don't like, what I want to buy and don't.

And there were a few moments where I'd listen to the song and it made me feel better about something I was going through. College was a time of self-discovery, trying to figure out who I was and what I wanted in life. I'm still working on that but for minutes after listening to it I'd have clarity and be fine with myself as I was that just made me feel good.

Listening to "Gold" is a different experience each time and it tells me what I need to hear, so I refer to it as my "soul tattoo"... the one Prince song tattooed on my soul for all eternity

had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

Many of his songs are but right now it's Sometimes it Snows in April.. I know it's about death but to me It's about missing someone, because when you have someone in your life you love so much but you don't see them much anymore, it hurts sad . also If i was your girlfriend, open book, empty room....

Many of Prince's songs are meaningful to me. But the one that really gets to me is Last December. It asks many questions that make me stop and meditate on for a moment. Maybe it's because I'm in a certain place in my life where I feel like everything has to be in place, just right so just in case, you know. That song has caused me to reflect on where I am, where I want to be and how I want to be viewed (or remembered) before I close my eyes in death. Like I said, there are many songs that Prince has written that gets to me but this one (Last December) is very poignant.

Joy In Repetition, it was her persuation to get his attention, Beginning Endlessly,he maintains the girl attention at "sexy" while he's being an Ass through his "alter ego", Sea of Everything, it made me cry cause it reminded me of myself and my dating life, Somewhere Here On Earth, it made me cry it made me cry I wanted to give him a hug, Future Baby Momma, it shows that he wants a baby, Mr. Goodnight, he's ultra smooth n ultra violet, Insence and Candles, it turned me on, The Question Of You, I've had spiritual battles too, Forever In My Life , it showed his country side, The Greatest Romance Ever Sold, very hip hop and sensual...

Single cd released for Australia, songs: Let it go & Solo

- found refuge in this songs when feeling left out, hopeless and lonely. After a break up. For me it also reminds me that I will allways be alone, eventhough I might be in a relationship or experience love for someone. In the end the only one who can save me is me wink

Very recently:

When you were mine.

-Somebody sang this song to me. Thought that was very romantic. I stopped seeing someone I love, however, have not future with, in order to date him. However, maybe it was about this one "I love you more than I did, when you were mine" pout

Play in the sunshine.

- It's my ringtone since a year. It reminds me of having fun, eventhough there is misery around the world and in my own life. The toddler I care for allways starts dancing to the tune, when my phone rings. That image just makes me laugh. Therefore, I love that song.

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

In 1985, I was engaged with a certain young man but already falling in love with my present husband. We were kind of friends attending the same class in local college and then one evening (it was early in the spring and the snow was still on the ground) we had tea in my appartment. Nothing happened but we both were aware that there is something more between us two. Even though, that night I stayed home alone watching Prince's Purple Rain Tour gig from tv.

When I heard the song "Purple Rain" I knew that I have made up my mind. Those lyrics had it all. Definitely, "Purple Rain" is our song or my song but if you ask my husband it could be Bruce's "Cover me" as well. He's that kind of guy and I appreciate him for that. biggrin

Adonis and Bathsheba - It was the first unreleased Prince song that I heard. And it got a lot of play during my sophmore year in high school.

Future Soul Song - I played this song a lot last summer. It takes me back to those days.

I Can't Make You Love Me - This song was played a lot during summer 09'. It also brings back memories.
