Did you just completely miss the list of what looks like around 150 different songs Prince has performed live in the last 12 months?
As someone said above, its ok to criticise when its warranted, but its clearly not here.
Prince clearly picks the right setlist for the type of concert. At general festivals, you get general/casual fans, so it has to be hits based or you're going to disappoint tens of thousands of people who spent a lot of money for the weekend.
And to the OP - you're a typing contradiction! You're complaining about something you have never experienced! Listening to a bootleg (or even a professional, official, recorded release) is NOTHING like being at the event for yourself. Furthermore, he is NOT playing the same setlist at EVERYTHING. Just look at the list of the songs performed above. Show me any of Prince's contemporaries (heck, even any artist) that is playing with such diversity right now - there will be very few!
FFS, just ENJOY the fact that you have the opportunity to still witness one of the greats performing - when he's no longer performing or recording, well, God knows what you're going to bitch about then! And here's another tip - stop downloading everything the man does and perhaps even listen to him a bit less! It seems to me that some people here literally saturate their ears and brain with him - is it any wonder you're getting bored?! ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

But that's not what your overall point was...It was your silly point that Prince plays the same shows during his shows which clearly he doesn't...You can't continue to move the goalpost....

Did he play any of the songs that I said he play every show? No. My overall point was that he plays the same songs over and over. He played a different setlist at the Jazz Festival, and I said, "that's what I'm talking about". As in that's what I perferd.

Fucking hell, just for 2 years? Doesn't that list contain more different songs than all other regularly touring artists combined together have played live in their entire career?

I'm not admitting anything, especially since OP is fucking wrong. The amazing setlists for his 3 days at Nort Sea Jazz 2011 is proof enough. Forever changed

another orger put the link below on another thread:
http://www.setlist.fm/sta...?year=2011
IT ENDS ALL SPECULATION WITH FACTS.
Sorry I can't find their name to thank them!
Setlists have been a real pondering and talking point for me since he's being doing this 'type' of show for the last several years...
This site says it all - basically it's slim pickings if you're looking for more interesting songs, I love his energy and warmth in the shows since 2010, regardless of setlists. And imo he's made an all time classic - LRC - even better then the orginal (i.e. slow down etc), so that really is something.
But at the end of the day we're (hardcore) only gonna get really excited about a handfull songs in this period.Period.
I'm happy he's still performing well and very grateful I can enjoy a good P gig but the last best setlists were played at ONA for sure...

I stand corrected too. The NSJ setlists are off the chain. Would have loved to have been at those shows!

Except its not what you said at all. Do you need reminding of your own words?
" Let's Admit It, Prince Plays The Same Songs Over And Over.
Let's be honest now. Every show he plays:
Delirious 1999 Little Red Corvette......."
You've been proved wrong, just admit it and move on instead of trying to blur what you said! ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

clearly a daft thread. Whilst he has been playing a lot of the same songs he has certainly mixed it up in the last few shows. Go and see any other artist [old and new] on tour and check out their set lists- I am willing to bet that the vast majority of the set is mostly the same night after night. Look at P during the SOTT / Lovesexy tour, [the period that the vast majority consider to be his peak live performances] -it was virtually the same set every night with the aftershows allowing him to stethch out.

Did he play any of the songs that I said he plays over and over? He played Alphabet St, and that song is on the list of songs that I said I perfer. He plays the same songs when he's performing for a general crowd.

Laydown, When I Lay My Hands On U, Empty Room, Calhoun Square, Girl, Partyman and Something In The Water (Does Not Compute) in the same show, that is an amazing setlist. He needs to vary the songs like this.

So far we've got a 3 page debate on the opinions of the original poster who actually has never been to a Prince concert. He's never heard any song live/in person at all. He is entitled to whatever he wants to feel but maybe he should attend a show and then formulate an opinion on what he'd really like to hear. He may find hearing 'Kiss' & 'Purple Rain' live are more enjoyable than he's been led to believe by reading threads on here. Then again he may not enjoy them but then his opinion would have a bit more validation from the actual experience. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

This topic is so ridiculous to me, especially since I only tend to see it here. What other artists gets crucified by fans for playing hits for the majority of a concert? Prince is a living legend. Many people who go to his shows are seeing him for the first time. They have not been to 20 concerts or listened to 50 boots, so the experience is fresh for them. You cannot fault the man because you have overdosed on his live shows.
I've seen Santana annually for years and the setlists are the same except for a song or two. I know this, but I enjoy seeing him. I am a hardcore Santana fan and would love to hear some obscure songs but only about 5% of the audience probably shares that desire. That said, I am never displeased with the show.
I saw Patti Labelle for this first time ever this weekend and you know what she played? 13 of her hits and a cover of MJ's Earth Song for her encore. Guess what? I loved every second of the show. Had she played a collection of songs I was not as familiar with, I would have enjoyed her talent and amazing showmanship, but it would not have been the same as being able to sing along with every song she played. She played the next night in another city and had the same setlist except for a couple of changes. So, if I had gone to the second show would I have a right to complain about her doing the hits? Is it her fault that she is playing to her audience? Many people had seen her before and they were happy to hear the same hits they did the previous year she performed.
Some of you Prince fans need to get over yourselves. If you are not happy with Prince's setlists, stay home and stop listening to the boots. perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...

Some ppl are so unsatisfied, never, ever..Prince plays the songs that his fans want to hear..over and over again we want the same kind of "joy in repetition", Over and over again yes those who aren't fans to the core appreciate his most famous songs.. Whereas, whenever Prince plays in "aftershows" the setlists aren't similar aren't that well known.. In my own case, I do like, no, I love to listen to the same songs, I do love to listen to him when he remasterises as for Nothing compares to U at Stade de France, U got the look at "la société" aftershow as for "Joy in repetition" at North Sea July the 10th..Never the same way of playing, never the same voice, but still he's faithful to himself, cause he knows how to renew his material.. 'nothing's created, nothing's lost all is transformed.." Lavoisier

if you play for a big crowd then its normal you need a couple of crowd pleasers .he tried a couple of years not to play purple rain and 1999 kiss .....(remeber the ona tour???) we hardcore fans and musiclovers want to hear his non commercial music but that's not possible
believe me i'm a dj and there is no escape from the same floorfillers everynight (if you play for a big commercial crowd)
he always makes a good mix of the hits & more exlusive output its a smart move and also it seems to work just fine because everywere i go to a prince concert everybody is happy . don't forgett he plays a 3hours show fi he plays no hits or crowdpleasers it just doesn't work

Well here's my two cents worth firstly I went to all 21 nights in London went to all the aftershows went to Nice 2010 and Hop Farm and I've not been bored once. I've seen so many different songs live from 1000 Hugs & Kisses, Beautiful Strange, Something In The Water and Dreamer to Around The World In A Day, The Morning Papers, 3121, Empty Room, Chelsea Rodgers and Chaos & Disorder.
I'm not saying this to brag but to point out that amongst the 23 performances of Purple Rain, 22 performances of Take Me With U and 23 performances of Nothing Compares 2 U I've seen all those other songs.
A show has a frame work and within that frame work Prince slips in enough suprises to keep even the hardcore interested at his gigs.
Also over those shows he also played all of the songs I've bolded in your wish list. More than that he played Alphabet Street in at least 4 different arrangements ( Solo Guitar/ Sampler Set/ Full Band and Stripped three piece band with dirty guitar solo ) which just goes to show you you can't judge a show by it's set list.
Also at shows i've not been to he's played Endorphine Machine, 2045, Purple Music, The Love We Make, She Spoke To Me, All Day All Night, In A Large Room With No Lights and loads more.

Having seen most of Prince's UK shows since 1986 I can add the following:
1. All shows are superb
2. You have to be there. I would have been disappointed by the Hop Farm setlist, but being there is totally different - it was great
3. The variety in the three Rotterdam dates was huge.
4. Prince knows his audiences. That why there was a difference between Hop Farm and Rotterdam.
5. How much variation was there in Purple Rain, Parade, SoTT or Lovesexy tours? Very little , but they were great shows and Prince already had a large back catalogue.
6. Bootlegs mean we are over indulged. When Lovesexy hit London, man, that was something else. Now, you may have heard the previous week's shows, seen some video and know what to expect.
7. James Brown was great live, and he played the same show for 25 years.

well out of your list, he used to always play Alphabet St, Strange Relationship, I could Never Take the Place of Your Man, The Ballad of Dorothy Parker, How Come U don't Call Me, 7, When You Were Mine.... in various tours/aftershows of the 2000's. So you should cut out those too. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

Listening to a boot of a recent show in Europe, I only get really excited with a new song, in this case the "We Live Funky" song he started the show with as a soundcheck is the best part.
I would rather he only play new stuff or very very rare old stuff. But more or less only new stuff is totally cool for me live. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid
