Let's Admit It, Prince Plays The Same Songs Over And Over.

Let's be honest now. Every show he plays:

Delirious

1999

Little Red Corvette

Let's Go Crazy

Let's Work

Raspberry Beret

Cream

U Got The Look

Cool

Controversy

Kiss

If I Was Your Girlfriend

Nothing Compares 2 U

Purple Rain and a couple of covers.

He could easily take the first thirteen out and play something like:

I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man

Forever In My Life

All The Critics...

Lady Cab Driver

Private Joy

Batdance

Alphabet St.

I Wish U Heaven

Strange Relationship

The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker

Money Don't Matter 2 Night

When You Were Mine

How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore

7

Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad

I Wanna Be Your Lover

And I'm not trying to hear that "people wan't to hear hits" crap. Those songs was hits, to the Prince fan community and world.

I still love to listen to the shows, but I wan't something new. Prince is the greatest, but suprise us.

sad but true.

i wish he would stop skipping alot of the songs from his previous albums. seems like the 1999 album is all he remembers. he should do:

For you

why you wanna treat me so bad

it's gonna be lonely

delirious

something in the water does not compute

sombody's somebody

free

my computer

the morning papers

the ending of "papa"

sex in the summer

the holy river

etc

I love these songs, and they're not even vulgar, they're appropriate enough to sing them live in 2011. What makes prince think "kiss" and "little corvette" is an exception, but madsex isnt? or is it only because they was a top 10 hit?

I STAN and SLAY for Prince LOL.

I agree. That's why I stopped downloading the boots from these recent concerts unless I see that he had a rare performance on a particular night. How often can you hear the Controversy-Housequake-Controversy arrangement? And as much as I love to see him shake his tail feather, the Kiss dance is getting old. Sorry Europe. But don't get me wrong--I will go see him in a heartbeat if he comes to my area. I just hope he has a small club after show when he gets done playing the hits.

He is playing these festivals with a lot of casual fans who don't care about his lesser known songs. He's getting paid to entertain them, not us. He doesn't care about his hardcore fans who come to those shows. When he does aftershows, he mixes it up a good bit more. But he's just a nostalgia act for the most part now, albeit an excellent one.

And who doesn't, really? I love how it's assumed every other million selling star outside Prince keeps giving completely unknown and brand new songs at shows with audiences of ten thousands. Just get over it, there's only so much popular songs an artist is allowed to have, that's how it works.

Those songs are well known, far from being "completely unknown"

No they aren't. Outside When Doves Cry & The Most Beautiful Girl In The World, the Prince songs the general public remembers are the ones he keeps performing. It's not something that can be changed, regardless if the whole Prince.org keeps being upset about it. Same reason why Madonna has to perform Holiday, Into The Groove & Music until she dies, because these are basically her most famous songs and the people who attend her shows expect and want to hear them.

I agree with you, but I would like to point out that I doubt anyone other than a fan would even know, let alone consider these hits. Maybe in America, I dunno, but certainly not in Europe.

And as for Batdance. Wouldn't that just be bizarre to hear him sing live now? I'd much prefer Partyman or (again not a hit, but probably the best song on that album) Vicki Waiting added to the setlist.

blah blah blah

Maybe he is not inspired or maybe he really is still a people pleaser and is playing what he knows the crowd will thrive on. ?

So. F-ing. What.

Go to the next Prince concert. Take a poll. Ask how many people are seeing Prince for the only time this tour. I predict your positive response rate will be upwards of 98%.

So, Prince is playing for 98%+ of the audience, who will only see him once.

You'd do the same.

So let's all quit bellyaching about it. Those who do are only showing their ignorance.

This AGAIN?

Y'all watch too many of his shows on youtube and boots, seriously

What do you really expect, that he changes his setlists to all the songs YOU like every night?

Come on...

There is a lot more people coming to his shows than just you, the spoiled hardcore that has seen it all a million times already

Here is an idea: stop watching so much of his shit. You will appreciate it much more when you do watch it.

Uhh, no. I'm going to keep watching/listen to his recent shows simply because I'm a hardcore fan. I appreciate his performances, I just want to hear different songs. The songs that I said he should play, are well known to people. If casual fans go crazy over "Sometimes It Snows In April", they'll go crazy over the songs I said he should play.

I'm honestly amazed he still bothers. Enjoy whatever you can get live out of Prince while you can because I really don't think he'll be playing a whole lot longer. The guy is 53, maybe another decade if that?

Maybe people shouldn't got to 10 concerts in a 21 night run expecting an entirely new setlist each night. It's unrealistic.

The funny thing is that everyone who complains about this topic given the chance would still attend every single show they could afford to go to anyway.

I'm one of those casual fans and I wouldn't mind hearing Purple Rain even if it was the billionth time. lol I'm thinking because his MO has changed from doing shows with unrecognizable/unreleased/album track songs that he knows that when at least the casuals see him, they expect the classics and he delivers on that regard. Maybe one day he'd do more shows for the hardcore fans. Todd Rundgren was like that for years too refusing to do his hits because most of them were bittersweet and he's done tours where he performed the duration of songs from albums that weren't as popular but now does his classics on occasion. Guess Prince is going more for the jugular because it brings in needed income for him to continue his business and pay his bills and also, to "combat his fight against internet piracy" and I quoted that last bit. Wink wink. wink
