Prince versus Roger Waters

As I left Bercy on 30 June with the last notes of Another Brick In The Wall ( Pt 94) ringing in my ears, and the thought that Prince was playing in the SDF just down the road, I got to a-thinkin’ about connections between Roger Waters and our dear P.

And , as with my threads on Kim Wilde and The Human League, I got to a-wonderin’; could Roger actually be better than Prince???

Ladies and gentlemen, I put it to you.....

  1. For a top price of under 100€ our “Rog” put on an amazing show with flying pigs, crashing planes and, of course, the amazing “Wall”. At the same time at the SDF , for nasty ticket prices, Prince had a tired old video screen from the last Foreigner tour and Shelby.

2.As he revealed to us at the O2, one of Prince’s fave songs is apparently Pink Cashmere (it’s nobody else’s though!). The title was obviously inspired by Pink Floyd, of which Roger was once the bassist/singer/songwriter.

3. Roger, when in Pink Floyd, was known as a bit of a tyrant and a control freak, not wanting anyone else to write songs, contribute to the creative vision etc etc. Does this remind you of anyone??? Roger wins the “tyrant” category, however, as Prince accepted to listen to Wendy and Lisa’s Purple Rain cassette in his dressing room and then actually play the song. He also accepted to play Computer Blue which his violent father may ( or may not) have written

4. If you go dwon to your local wrecka stow and shift throught the vinyl, Pink Floyd is alphabetically before Prince.

5.One of Roger’s and Pink Foyd’s most famous songs is “Money”. As we all know, this is the main thing that motivates Prince these days.

6. In point 1 I mentioned flying pigs. Some believe that pigs will fly the day P makes another decent album.

7. Roger’s old mate in the band was Dave Gilmour. Prince has never had anyone called “Dave” in his band.

8. “We don’t need no thought control” sang ver kids on Another Brick.....if you are a Jehovah’s Witness, you obviously don’t agree with this.

9. At “The Wall” show, one of the final songs was “Run like hell”...how many of us fell the same when we see Shelby appearing once agian?

10. And, er, many other things.

Yes, I could go on and on ( and on) but I won’t .....

I just hope this will make some of you reflect a little on the connections between Roger Waters and Prince

Roger Waters got rave reviews in Denmark for his show around THE WALL,

just like Prince did last year.

Both are brilliant artists!

AsylumUtopia

I just saw The Wall show a few weeks ago in the Dublin O2.

It was exceptionally good. For 'Mother', Roger Waters sang along with himself from 30 years ago - without the aid of a time machine!

Can Prince say that? I think not.

But then Prince knows time is a trick, which proves the point.

Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP.

You could also mention that they both have "Roger" in their names. But while Mr. Waters is only one "Roger," Prince Rogers Nelson is several. Ahhhhhhhh!

Also, I think Pink Cashmere is a great song. And what do people have against Shelby? She's a powerhouse vocalist and a badass bitch. I can attest to this since she practically got in my face while singing Brown Sugar at The House of Blues.

Roger Waters worked with Sinead O' Conner.

Prince apparently "worked over" Sinead O' Conner after she "worked over" his song.

Once again, my little green friend, you cut through the pointless picture thread and general dross and get straight to the point.

There are other key points that need highlighting....

1. Pink Floyd released A Momentary Lapse of Reason in 1987, and 25 years later, Prince released NEWS, which showed a complete lapse of reason.

2. Floyd give us High Hopes in 1994. Prince gave us high hopes in 1996, when he left WB. Floyd delivered.

3. Floyd brought us Comfortably Numb. Prince gave is the Bria Album which left most people numb.

4. In 94, Floyd introduced us to The Division Bell. Only four years later, Prince brought forth Larry Graham, his very own Divisional Bell End.

lol

In all seriousness, the guitar solo in "It" is just like a stereotypical The Wall style guitar solo. And the chords in the concluding epic moments of "Comfortably Numb" are similar to "Empty Room"

Prince wins easily because he still puts out new music. Roger Waters hasn't put out a PROPER album in decades.

PRINCE WINS.

Some of you guys are taking this thread waaay too seriously.

One observation about The Wall though: Roger lip-synched about half the show. It was still the best gig I saw last year (I went to the opening night in Toronto), but that was disappointing.

The truth is you thought like many of us the SDF Prince show would be a disaster. But it happened to be a bloody fantastic gig of nearly 3 hours with people dancing crazy, smiling away, with Prince killing it on the guitar and on the bass with an exceptional tight band.

No need for amazing lights, movies, stage gadgets when you are a genius performer.

So you're desperately trying to convince yourself you were right to go to Bercy rather than the SDF. Poor you.

lol

I love the 'They'... Typical xenophobic shit. I just read your comments on both sites and they are always the same. The whole wide world has to know you were at Roger Waters' show rather than Prince's. You've talked about it weeks before the show to "prove" the rest of the fan community how smarter you were to go to Bercy and not to the SDF show.

Then you find out how amazing the Prince show was and you've got to try to prove yourself you made the right decision in the first place.

I'm glad you saw a pig flying at the show. Woaw. Don't you worry... Roger waters would be still touring with the same show in five years from now. You'll have plenty of opportunities to see your favourite pig again. lol

Well the same joke over and over and over again... hum... Not for me. He has been talking about his Roger Waters gig on both schkopi.com and prince.org for weeks now. It's probably time for him to move on.

Fair enough. I think he knows deep down that Mr Waters is spanked by Mr Nelson any day of the week.
