"I wonder U" is just a sublime bassline. I still dont entirely understand what is going on with it having listened to the track a thousand times. Still sounds as good now as it ever did. At 1:40 that track just isn't long enough and that is why it's one of my favourites. Everytime I play it I think "if only there was just a little more"

A lot of Prince's bass lines are more of a "rhythmic rumble" & not so much of a defined melodic part. They're just a transparent part of the groove, but Funky as Hell, for sure.
