Am I The Only Person Who Hates Seeing People Immitate Prince?

Like in the 80's, almost every artist was trying to be like Prince. They'll look in the camera with their head turned to the left or right side, and make their eyes really big.

I also hate seeing people try to cover his songs(Beyonce, Rihanna, Fantasia etc...). People like Janelle Monae and Maxwell, I'm ok with.

If you think Prince sprang full-formed from the forehead of Zeus then you're out of your weak little mind. You hate people imitating Prince but it's okay for him to imitate other people? You're as much of a hypocrite as he is. Just like Prince said, "You get the fans you deserve." If only he knew that applied to him, as well.

Prince was "borrowing" the look of Jimi Hendrix and Little Richard in the 1980s. Hell, his eye movements in the Raspberry Beret video during the first verse are straight out of the Bangles Ms. Hoffs' playbook. Remember child, there is NOTHING new under the sun, only wacky combinations of things already done.

As long as YOU'RE okay with it - I guess it's okay.

Not the only person.

There was a recent thread with a youtube clip of some Prince impersonator and he gets laughter, yes, but no love from us orgers lol

At the end of the day, the only person who can pull of Prince is the man himself nod

I'm not ok with anyone covering a Prince song- NO ONE! It's always second rate, imo.

On his way to iconic status he borrowed elements of his icons plain and simple, from the Little Richard eye rolling to the James Brown band hits. We should be sophisticated and objective enough to discern between real talent, imitation and interpretation. Prince is still channeling Hendrix but he is now his own unique planet so Im not offended by it. If the kid has talent and want to mix in a little of Princes influence i find it gratifying that my guy became big enough to have his own "tree" of derivative artist. I've said this a lot as i get older but i had friends growing up who adored artist who flamed out and thought Prince wouldn't be around. I'm pretty sure at 53/54 he feels great about being viewed with this kind of reverance. As for covers, i'll give an artist the same listen i give Prince when he covers, if they bring something that i appreciate i'll DLit and if not i'll pass. Mariah's beautiful ones was in no way near Princes but i really liked the vocal interplay with Sisqo so i kept it on my ipod, no big deal.

I don't hate them but the problem with the impersonators is just that! If you wanna do a tribute band and do a show of his songs thats fine but when they try to dress and act just like him it just ends up creepy! Wear a purple trench coat or play one of his gutar replicas and stop at that!

They'll look in the camera with their head turned to the left or right side, and make their eyes really big.

Little Richard did this long before Prince. Then there was Buckwheat and Stepin Fetchit before Richard.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton
