Which Prince albums do you Not have & Why

Here's my list:

The Black Album

Reason: I really only like 2 songs: Bob George & Rock Hard in a Funky Place. The stale drum programming on a lot of the tracks makes it a tough listen. Dead On It is funky as hell, but the lyrics suck.

Chaos & Disorder

Reason: For a guitar rock album, there’s actually not enough guitar for me. I Will has probably the best solo on the album, and it’s kind of a slow song. On tracks like, Chaos & Disorder, I Like It There, and the Same December, I was waiting for him to shred, and it just didn’t happen.

20ten

Reason: It sounds like Prince imitating somebody who is trying to imitate Prince. The songs use some of his classic sounds, but not in compelling ways. The melodic hooks aren’t memorable. The drum patterns aren’t exciting. The lyrics are half baked. I like Prince classic sound as much as the next person. I just wished I got some classic songs to go with the sounds.

A lot of his downloaded and European releases because I either didn't know about it or lost it when I divorced and moved (long story) bawl bawl

Because of their half-baked mistakes, we get ice cream, no cake; all lies, no truth; is it fair to Kill the YOUTH ~~ Party Up

Graffiti Bridge: Did you hear the music featured on that album? Besides Question Of U, its all a bunch of trash, atleast to my ears, and I also cant stand the movie, what I saw of it anyways, Ive never watched the movie in its entirety/full. Just couldnt stand this era maybe cause it all circulated around an awful movie, and the songs were creative, but terrible misjangled sounding

20Ten: Wasnt sold in the U.S so I guess Prince, didnt wont my money lol , and after hearing it, it was not as bad as people made it out to be, but defintley wasnt worth the selling price on amazon or ebay. I can do with out this album, I only like sticky like glue, and sorta like Laydown

The Black Album: Just didnt ever buy it, even when I found a copy for like 3$, I still had no thrill to purchase it. I think I like the myth of the whole album being "bad" Im sorry but ive fed into the myth, the idea of Prince feeling the album was wicked. Yes Prince you got me on that one biggrin lol

Chaos & Disorder: If you heard this album, you know exactly why I dont own this album. Its so bad, I cant think of even one song I like on it.

NEWS: Never heard one song off this album, which I heard is four jazz songs that our boring, but I would be willing 2 listen 2 it atleast, but cannot find a copy anywhere sad

Raveun2: My ex boyfriend stole this album after our break-up that was years ago, I purchased a copy again 4 years ago, and I left it in an unsafe place, and someone sat on it during a party, I threw. Then just last year my sister gave me a copy, then took it back during an argument we had, she always goes straight for the Prince merch d*mn, so I guess me, and this album werent meant to be, although I think the album is only okay, but still its worth having, but oh well its what ever

So only 3 albums by choice, I feel embarassed as a fan boxed

I haven't listened to a lot of the NPGMC stuff. I have it on my computer, but I just haven't gotten around to listening to it because other good music seems to take priority.

The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.

I think I have them all, but I'm not sure lol

After Emancipation, I found the plastic years to be dreadful. So I collected his music simply as a completist, but I don't think I listenned to every song all the way through. I gave most songs about a 10 second listen.

It's really kind of bizarre to me that I find about 50% of his material now to be sub-par. That's a high number of songs for someone of Prince's caliber.

Why would someone have all of his albums, but not want the last one he/she needed, because he/she did not like a couple of tracks?

If I based my collection on that kind of tactic, I would have about 2 albums.

i figured somebody might have that reaction. lol

i love funk -- how can you not with albums like One Nation Under a Groove, Dirty Mind, and Love, Power, Peace (James Brown) out there? but the best funk has a more dynamic, bouncing, swinging rhythm section than what the black album offers, imho.

There's some NPG Music Club stuff I'm missing here and there. Why? Because I didn't trust Prince's subscription web dabblings. I may get around to filling those gaps eventually, for completist reasons. But I've heard much of the material, and based on how it struck me, I'm in no rush.

hmm i might let him get his own org account so he can tell u his views on that himself cool but here's a brief introduction to him if he ever comes on this site..

he absolutely adores prince's music, he thinks his interviews and antics are thorough timeless genius, he thinks porn is the funniest thing he's ever accidently seen, and he takes shit from utterly no one. heart

3121: I owned this one for years and sold it off for a few bucks recently. Just nothing compelling me to return to it.

Planet Earth: Same deal here. A few nice moments, but otherwise I just did not have a compelling need to own PE anymore.

20ten: I actually like this one, but it hasn't exactly been readily available in the states. I may eBay it eventually.

I've seen the future, and boy it's rough...

I don't know if they're albums or not, but I don't have (or heard, other than PFUnk or whatever it was called lol) anything he released online only. I never download anything. If I can't buy it in a store, then I don't bother with it. I don't have that last album he released in the newspaper in Europe either

the NPGMC stuff, ONA box, and Rave In2.

Cant find it or they're expensive, lol

Yes, at 19, I finally saw the Revolution, a legendary band. And I talked to Wendy!!! biggrin In addition to seeing Prince, I have now lived life. Thank you Purple People!!

funkomatic

After collecting from 1989 up to 2003 mostly out of habit, I've decided to stop buying Prince albums.

What's the use of owning CDs, if you don't like to listen to them?!

With the internet I have the possibility of listening to an album 1st and then decide, if I want to buy it (=quality control of the costumer!). Unfortunately the new material wasn't to my taste at all so far!

I think I found both ONA box and Ravein2 on an auction site for around 40 bucks. Of course the NPGMC stuff isn't available anymore wink.

At this time, I don't see the point in buying Crystal Ball or the ONA Live box set.

The money is being spent on schoolbooks for the same prices, priorities, priorities wink

Have a look at 'The W2A: Euro Tour Song Survey' http://prince.org/msg/12/362417

There are 2 albums I'm lacking an original copy of: Goldnigga and The Undertaker.

I want to have them, but they are damn expensive.

No it never was.

I don't have ONA...Piano or Lotusflow3r. I obviously have burned copies but I refuse to pay ridiculous amounts on ebay for ONA...Piano and I've only seen Lotusflow3r as an expensive import. If I see it cheap, I'll pick it up and I was tempted when I saw the vinyl but nah I'm really not a collector anymore.

My keen, impeccable, and infallible intuition of course. Also, those songs were dreadful.
